Spain - Women Take Top Positions

The world was robbed by an assasin earlier this year of Benazir Bhutto in Pakistan, who might well have become Pakistan's leader.

There was once a time when having a woman in a powerful political position was unheard of. Those days are gone, for the most part. There always will be people who oppose the idea, but they are becoming the minority.

Margaret Thatcher paved the way for the future of women in politics. She held the position of British prime minister from 1979-1990, the longest tenure in that office since 1827.

She led the Conservative Party from 1975-1990 and was the first and only female (to date) to hold either position. Nicknamed 'The Iron Lady' she was a close ally of U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Margaret Thatcher once said, 'The woman's mission is not to enhance the masculine spirit, but to express the feminine. Hers is not to preserve a man-made world, but to create a human world by the infusion of the feminine elements into all of its activities.'

Women Now the Majority in the Spanish Cabinet

Thatcher isn't the only woman to hold an important political position. Spain's newly elected Prime Minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, has a strong platform for gender equality. Until recently, his cabinet was equally split between male and female members. He changed that balance when he named a woman, Carme Chacon, as the new defense minister.

This created a shift that made a majority of the cabinet female for the first time in history. Nine of Spain's 17 cabinet members are now women. Zapatero also is planning to raise the number of women in the Spanish armed forces.

Zapatero's choice for defense minister has been met with some skepticism because Chacon lacks a military background.

She earned her law degree from Barcelona University. In 1989, she joined the Cataluna Young Socialists. Later, she joined the PSC Catalan Socialist Party. Her first formal experience in politics came in 1999 when she was elected first deputy. The following year, she was elected as a Socialist MP for Barcelona. Chacon was later given the title of first vice president of Congress.

Hillary Clinton Runs for President

Another prime example of women in politics is Hillary Clinton. In 1992, she became the U.S. first lady when her husband, Bill Clinton, was elected president.

She proved herself a headstrong woman during their eight years in the White House. She ran for and won a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2000. She was re-elected in 2006. Her formidable 2008 presidential campaign has helped to break through even more barriers for women in politics.

Hillary Clinton has held strong to her beliefs in health care, women's rights, child advocacy and a fair voting process. She also has taken the stance that the fight at home over the U.S. economic crisis is just as important as the fighting going on overseas.

Women in Politics

More and more qualified women around the world are entering the political ring and they are paving a path for the future of women in politics. A growing need for equality has made it possible for more women to run for office.

We may one day see a time when having females in top leadership positions, or in the majority of a nation's leadership, is no longer viewed as a unique occurrence, and Spain is leading the way with women being holding the majority of the country's top political posts.

As a single person, looking for a special person to spend the rest of his/her life with, often the single person reflects only on one's own needs and desires. As Catholic Christians, however, we should focus on spiritual attributes, not only physical qualities and personalities.

As I examine my own thoughts at that point in life, I can remember praying to find that special person. As a non-Catholic at the time, I do recall my love for Jesus being strong. Unlike so many young people today, I did know what I was looking for in a spouse. I felt confident through patience and prayer that God would lend lead me to her. God did, in fact, lead me to her. We have been married for almost four years now. We have a son just over two years of age. We are expecting another child.

Femininity

My wife is an extraordinary person. She is devout in her faith and in all her duties as a homemaker. I see in her the proper role of femininity. Most women today have lost their femininity because of the women-liberation movement. Today there are women working in construction jobs, or as auto-mechanics, etc. Years ago people would never have dreamt of such work for women. These women have lost their femininity in their attempt to be equal to men. They feel they can do whatever a man can do. These women in fact are unhappy because they are not living their natural role of femininity.

Recently I was looking at old photographs from the fifties. I noticed all the women were wearing dresses. In society today, the women liberated from true femininity tend to look down on wearing dresses while in previous years, most women wore dresses. A modestly dressed woman brings out her femininity and beauty.

Young men prefer feminine dress

This is but one aspect that attracted me to my wife, her femininity consistently manifested in her dress. It was a great relief to find a girl who believed that modest dress in a feminine way was important. I believe most young men, when put to the test for their honesty, and not under social pressures, would admit that they prefer women dressed in a feminine modest manner.

I live near the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Alabama. The Shrine is rightly strict about modesty in dress. But I see an unhealthy number even of elderly women who visit here wearing blue jeans and tennis shoes. As a young person I was exposed to this all my life. I thought nothing of it until I started reading books on femininity and masculinity and experienced what a good Catholic family should be. I married into such a Catholic family.

Not only women but children are dressing immodestly today, both in public and often at Mass where our Lord is present in the Holy Eucharist. It is difficult for a young man to stay focused and pure even at Mass when a young woman walks into church wearing immodest clothing. They have lost the sense of modesty. Both young and older parents need to monitor at all times what their children wear. Men and boys should also dress modestly when attending Mass. Sundays should reveal our best dress of the week. Dressing modestly and well for Mass reflects our faith that Jesus is present in the Eucharist and that He perpetuates His Sacrifice of the Cross.

If the President of the United States was coming to town and speaking at a convention dinner, to which you were invited, would you wear shorts, a T-shirt or a mini-skirt? I don't think so. Yet, in the house of God many ignore His Real Presence by the way they dress. Why do people act this way? It is because faith in the Real Presence of Jesus and the perpetuation of His Sacrifice of the Cross at every Holy Mass has been lost, or has been seriously weakened. G.K. Chesterton would say to this: "What's wrong with the world!

Holy Eucharist and Holy Matrimony

Together with a weakening of faith in the Sacrament of the Eucharist there has been a weakening of faith in a proper understanding of the Sacrament of Matrimony. Pope John Paul II in Familiaris Consortio pointed out the importance and connection of Holy Eucharist and Holy Matrimony. A good faith understanding of the reality of the Holy Eucharist as Sacrifice and Sacrament and a devout reception of the Eucharist is essential to a good marriage.

Many Catholics do not realize what is important to have a successful marriage. They appear oblivious to the precise roles of the husband and wife. Why? They have not had role models to follow. Too many priests are failing to educate married couples properly before marriage and to preach accurately on the duties of the married state..

The divorce rate is extremely high. In some areas it is at least 60 %. What are the causes? Both husband and wife are working. Often a working mother comes home tired, impatient and aggravates the children who have not been taught discipline. They've been at a day care center with other screaming, aggravated children. The tired working mother then also screams at the children.

And the husband? After a stressful work day he comes home to screaming children, an aggravated wife, a home without peace. He says he is going to a sporting event, or fishing. He gets away because he cannot handle the pressures and tensions from the children or his wife.

A confusion of roles is the cause here. Mothers should be at home giving love and care for her children, not working away from home. With careful planning and some wisdom in the handling of money, and not being saturated with the spirit of materialism against which the Pope has spoken so often, it should not be necessary for both to work. Her role is to be at home with her children and to make a loving home for her husband as well as the children. She should welcome him home with joy as would the children also in imitation of the mother.

When the woman extends herself into the work force it introduces some masculine characteristics into her life; it robs her of her femininity. The woman as the heart of the home is thus disturbed. God had a plan in creating the family. He gave separate roles to the husband and to the wife as revealed at the beginning of creation. The woman is the heart of the home and the man is the head of the home.

Prepare girls to be homemakers, not Working Mothers

A woman in the home develops feminine characteristics, such as love, patience and domestic arts and crafts. She has the opportunity in her home to acquire the charm of true womanliness. When she rejects this role and enters the man's world she loses her charm and loveliness and develops a sense of hardness. When a woman shares the burden of earning a living for the family, she takes on a masculine role. She wants to succeed in the world but she loses her femininity needed for true motherly qualities.

Many men are the motive behind the working woman. They feel they need the extra income so they can buy more material possessions and encourage their wives to work away from the home. They often end up making unwise spending decisions, attain more material possessions, but the quality of home life, love, peace and unity, is lost.

Today, the working woman is at an all time high. There is pressure on young girls to attend college so they can have a career. If only parents would guide them in the preparation to be good wives, mothers and women with feminine and pure qualities which is the vocation for most women. Most women never use their college education. In college a good percentage end up in serious sin of premarital sexual relations. A study in recent years revealed that over ninety percent of girls sent to college lose their virginity. Do parents realize they are sending their daughters into near occasions of sin when they send them to college? Is a college education necessary to be a good wife and mother? Parents who prepare their daughters for a career rather than marriage and motherhood will be held accountable.

The vocation of most women is motherhood. Guiding girls to prepare for a working career is harmful when attention should be given to prepare them to be full-time homemakers. When one is fully focused on doing a job one does well. When one integrates other jobs into your main work one's primary duty suffers. It is the same with being a wife and mother. If a women is focused on her God-given role as wife and mother, then as the beating heart of the home she will do well and be happy.

The husband has the dutiful role of shielding his wife from the pressures of the world so she can perform her God-given role more perfectly. It is not God's plan for the woman to divide herself into separate worlds as mother and provider. She has a full time job as the caretaker of love in the family. She should not be engaged in the worries of the man's world.

It is sad to see women trying to be masculine. Many women have accepted the belief that femininity is degrading to women. The mass media has convinced women that they can not be successful or fulfilled unless they have a career outside the home. This attitude when accepted destroys the lives of many otherwise good women. It can destroy the peace and tranquility of women.

A look at various magazines and television also communicates the message to girls and women: if you are young, you dress immodestly and if you are older you dress in a non-feminine manner. The multitude of people have been desensitized over the years by the media so that true Christian values and roles have been forgotten.

How to change the non-feminine trend

Good Catholic parents should educate their children to the proper roles of men and women. They should carefully monitor their clothing. Growing children will probably try to convince parents that being modest is not in style. You must help them discover in-style feminine clothing.

I feel sorry for young gentlemen who have just gone to confession for impure thoughts. When they come out and turn the corner they often see girls and women dressed in mini-skirts, or low-cut blouses, sleeveless clothing, etc. Immodesty is everywhere, the media, billboards, etc. It is the silent road to hell that crushes the morality of our people.

Mother Church present the Blessed Virgin Mary as the example for modesty. This does not mean wearing the style of clothing she wore. But all should look to Mary for the prayerful protection of modesty and purity. Teach youth to ask Mary's intercession and for guidance and understanding. When girls and women dress modestly they regain their dignity. They then become an examples to girls and women around them.

For a wife to be holy she must be obedient to God's Word and obey her husband. One of the most widely misunderstood concepts of marriage today is that of submission. Many women think they should have an equal role in authority in marriage or even more than their husbands. They think that wives who submit to their husbands should become more "enlightened." But it is they who should be "enlightened." The wife who resists her husband's authority will lack peace in the home and have many problems with the children who like her will rebel against authentic Catholic Christian principles.

The biblical presentation of the wife submitting to her husband is such a beautiful concept and God's own teaching. Consider those liberated career women? Their very faces seem to have a scow. Premature lines from stress of job and lack of peace in the home is seen in their faces. They seem bitter and they do not appear feminine or happy.

The women I know who are submissive to their husbands are happy and there is order and peace in their homes. The husband is happy and the children are a joy to both of them. God wants us all to be happy. He knows one will not be happy unless one lives the life as God designed our role to be. Women who think submission to their husbands is a life of a silent slave or as one who has no input into the marriage are totally missing the message of submission.

Submission is when the wife lives here God-given role for the better of her family. That role is to be obedient to her husband, care for the children, be a good home-maker who makes the home a happy place. She has the primacy of love in the home. She is not stressed out with worry and work to increase material values for the home. She lets the work and worry of support of the family to her husband. She does not interfere in his business or work. She is happy to see her husband come home for the evening. She is happy to have him at home when he has free days from work. He is happy to be home because his wife lives her the God-intended role as a home-maker for the family. She contributes greatly to harmony in the home. Her husband returns to a peaceful home.

The couple of a happy peaceful home can cope with whatever problems come their way. They put God and His Church first. The children have a living example of how to treat people of authority. They are being prepared to enter a good marriage themselves one day. In this way couples have a more fulfilling life as God intends.

I am not suggesting that couples following God's plan for marriage will be without great trials. A couple getting married doesn't realize all the problems that will be theirs in married life. Great tragedies may strike their family. Consider this one. They may lose a growing child by death. Statistics report that many couples have divorced after losing a child. But if they have built their marriage as God intended then both will grieve together and help one another carry this tremendous trial. Both will realize that the mother and the father will grieve differently.

Each one will have their good days and bad days after such a tragedy. The grieving will come as waves, sometimes intense, other times less so, even for years. Then they will help one another at the proper times focus that the child is alive in Christ, now and for all eternity. They will recognize that the child, whom they brought into the world as partners with God, now has everything they could have hoped for their child. They have one in heaven whom they call upon to pray for them. They recognize that they will see their child again and their joy will then be full, as Christ said. Without denying the grieving they will consider that they have a saint in heaven. They can still smile, gradually enjoy things together and remember this member of their family is still alive, having reached its final goal, even before its parents. Grieving together in Christ can make their family stronger and remind all of their final goal.

When there is a successful marriage, carrying one another's burdens, even as heavy as the death of a child, when husband and wife are truly one in Christ, as God's word calls for, then they will help one another. Couples who have become one will come closer to God whatever the problems that may come, even in tragedies as great as death. At the time of great trials special grace from God is needed, and it will be granted, when both are open to the grace of Holy Matrimony. The above thoughts are based on Ephesians 5:21-33.

Symbols in a dream, are actually the elements that make up the details. Even specific actions are sometimes symbols (such as falling). That night in a moment of weakness, she eats a big slice of cake, and a bowl of ice cream. That night she dreams of being on a farm on a cloudy day, and watching in disgust as a big manure covered sow eats and sucks non-stop at her sloop. She is astonished and ashamed when she noticed what the sow was eating! (cake and ice cream). It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out what that dream means, or what the animal symbolized! Her dream was telling her she would feel about as good about herself as she felt about the sow if she did not control her eating.

Automobiles

Vehicles that you ride in usually reflect two things; the direction you are heading in life, and your body. (the thing you travel or "ride" through life in) Unusually over exposure to a specific vehicle type may easily change the meaning. The condition of the vehicle might give you an idea of your health. Driving an old beat up car down a muddy road on a stormy night would be considered a pretty bad dream! However flying a Lear jet through blue skies with a song in your heart and the wind at your tail would be a rather good dream.

Children

A child represents to most of us, something new, different and joyous. Using this logic, it is easy to see why a child represents a new phase in your life or a new project as well. How well the child gets along and fares in the dream is an indication as to how well what it represents is doing. Also, a child symbolizes innocent parts of yourself sometimes, and at other times, immaturity and childishness. It all depends on the theme and emotions used in the dream.

Clothing

When you get into different moods you tend to choose different clothing, so clothing, for this reason best symbolizes your mood or state of mind. They also signify attitude. We wear clothing for all sorts of different reasons including, work, dating, play and social occasions. Attitudes and moods are similar to clothing in this regard, they are the camouflage we hide behind, our face we put on for the world in various situations so we can better cope. Take a look at what you, or other people in your dream are wearing to get even more clues to the dream's meaning. Death

Nearly any dream you have that refers to death, dying or attending a funeral, or the like, pertain to change. Most all the time this change is very dramatic and major. It can be change in your life attitude or emotional balance. These types of dreams can also symbolize confronting fear, usually fear of death or change. Since most of use will agree that death is the ultimate change, and many people fear it. Death dreams are generally big changes and should never be ignored. Sometimes they really do signify death! Another possible symbol of a death dream is threat. Whichever suits the dream depends on how well the theme was arrived at. Most death dreams are about major change and not about literal death though, so don't panic if you have one. Just patiently go through the analysis process, and make sense of it.

Buildings

The building in a dream usually points directly to a specific area of your life. Dreaming of being in an office complex, or factory can pertain to your working environment. It does not need to specifically pertain to your exact line of work. In other words, an office worker dreaming of a loading dock still can relate the dock to work, because that's the association made in his mind. A bathroom, may pertain to your general health and hygiene habits, and a kitchen might be about your eating and nutrition. What you associate different locations to mean in general, usually points to what the dream was getting at specifically. To dream of your childhood house, tends to be a reflection of your life today though. A dream of mass chaos in your childhood home can indicate great disturbances in your life either now, or coming shortly. These kinds of dreams are often prophetic. You should always write down and deeply analyze dreams of your childhood dwelling. Dreams of great buildings like cathedrals and large churches usually indicate the dream has a great meaning, and should be taken seriously, as well as any applied association.

People

People most often portrayed in dreams are actually reflections of your own personality traits, provided the dream is not prophetic.These traits are ones that you need to enhance or develop, or if negative, work on eliminating or reducing. You should immediately ask of yourself, what traits do I like, and what traits do I dislike in the characters I dream about? Then look for those traits in yourself. You may be very surprised to find a match up! People in dreams work most commonly to reflect, or mirror important aspects of your personality. You do well to always make this association.

Psalm 91 reads as follows from the Oxford Annotated Bible:

Y

You who live in the shelter of the Most High,

Who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,

Will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,

My God, in whom I trust.”

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler,

And from the deadly pestilence,

He will cover you with his pinions,

And under his wings you will find refuge,

His faithfulness is a shield and a buckler,

You will not fear the terror of the night,

Or the arrow that flies by the day,

Or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,

Or the destruction that wastes at noonday,

A thousand may fall at your side,

Ten thousand at your right hand,

But it will not come near you,

You will only look with your eyes,

And see the punishment of the wicked,

Because you have made the Lord your refuge,

The Most High your dwelling place,

No evil shall befall you,

No scourge will come near your tent,

For he will command his angels concerning you,

To guard you in all your ways,

On their hands they will bear you up,

So that you will not dash your foot against a stone,

You will tread on the lion and adder,

The young lion and serpent you will trample under foot,

While this psalm seems to be talking about a day and night, where thousands may fall prey to things like pestilence right in the view of the one individual to whom this psalm is addressed it is really emphasizing length of days with which extraordinary presence is given to this individual.

The psalm points to a long life for the given one person, and hopefully their experience would be restful at times rather than just containing scenes like those depicted in this psalm, where there is relative chaos in the outer environment, yet he or she is signaled out for help and guidance that includes the escort of angels.

The type of help portrayed in this psalm, including angelic help, would not be just brief but would be longstanding and very particular to presiding circumstances which may be otherwise of an overwhelming nature and beyond the contention of mortal means.

The situation described for this person, is too much to deal with for one individual, without the supernatural help that is described in this psalm.

One person is not able to match up with the accumulation and totality of threats described in this psalm, no matter what their individual expertise, acumen and strength is.

Only when counter opposed with supranational help and the arrival of angels, can these threats be contained and overcome, and the reality is that these threats contain real harm for those who are throughout. The threats themselves might not be adequately perceived as they often come about in the darkness.

This psalm doesn’t talk about the sudden appearance and then disappearance for the angels. The double reference to the foot of the individual, to whom this psalm is addressed, indicates that these angels are available for this person’s walk, implying the whole of his sojourn where at some or any points he may dash his foot against the stone, at any of which point, angelic intervention will take place.

The supernatural aid of the angels, would involve many of the steps, all of the steps, as any given step could be the subject of threats, or “ dashing the feet against the stone”. The angels, who are commanded by the Lord, reference the continuing presence of the Lordod to the individual.

The individual in this psalm is not necessarily hiding in the corner, but is going about.

In verse 11 it says, “For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways.” The person who is the subject of this psalm is apparently not inactive, but has many ways and many goings and comings. He is venturing in and about the world around him.

He could dash his foot against the stone, because he is out there in the wilds.

By contrast, in Deuteronomy Chapter 28 verse 56 it describes someone who is not venturing out, where it says. “ She who is the most refined and gentle among you, so gentle and refined that she does not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground, will begrudge food to the husband whom she embraces, to her own son, and to her own daughter.”

This verse is depicting someone who is many ways has played it safe, yet is still in trouble and not escaping surrounding difficulties, even though they haven’t ventured widely.

Another verse to contemplate in this psalm, as to what it could mean, is when it says in verse 2” Who abide in the shadow of the almighty”.

In Isaiah, Chapter 51 verse 16 it says,” I have put my words in your mouth, and hidden you in the shadow of my hand, stretching out the heavens and laying the foundations of the earth, and saying to Zion, “You are my people.”

In Hosea chapter 14 verse 7 it says, “They shall again live beneath my shadow, they shall flourish as a garden, they shall blossom like the vine, their flagrance shall be like the wine of Lebanon. “

The shadow of the Lord seems like a roving presence that can form a Garden of Eden like experience no matter what else is out there. It is a hiding place, but yet it is a place that can flourish like a garden, it isn’t a cave hidden from the world and the sun.

The psalms tops off with the final verse which says, “With a long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.”

Although the shadow is a place where someone is hidden, it is for the good and the individual is brought in to the very light of ultimate salvation.

In Isaiah Chapter 54 is closely related to psalm 91 including verse 14 which says,” In righteousness you will be established; you shall be far from oppression, for you shall not fear; and from terror, for it shall not come near you.

Overall, this is not moving away but forward and onward into the glorious presence of the Lord and final salvation.

The missing link in prayer

There is no real formula for prayer and it is done in the context of an overall relationship with the Lord.

But within prayer there is a call to understanding and contemplation of what the Lord is about and what meaning is brought forth in the prayer relationship.

What could be a missing link in the prayer relationship and what might be brushed over as understood yet not really contemplated in the meaning of prayer?

One missing link is acknowledgement of God as the creator in the here and now for you and me.

For example if you want healing in prayer, for example healing of the eyes, or eyesight problems, the prayer might be that you would thank and understand that God created your eyes and all eyes and the physical structures involved in sight and he does create the ongoing ability for you to see both in the physical sense and the spiritual sense.

As the Lord creates the clouds that pass by in the sky, he also creates and continues to create the visual field that enables you to see these changing clouds or sights in the sky that are also created by him on an ongoing basis. But this is only one example and anything we can think of that can be asked for specifically can be contemplated as involving the creative presence and power of the Lord in the here and now.

For example, the weather we encounter in a given day is indeed a creation of the Lord and we can involve ourselves in this creation by asking for specific types and forms of weather, requests that have been made and have been answered according to the Bible. Anything we might desire on the material plane still has to manifest itself in the creative reality of the forming future.

The prayer for healing can be contemplated as involving creation. You are asking the Lord to create a situation of health and the maintenance of health.

A relationship situation and a work situation can be understood as involving the creative presence of the Lord.

There is the theory of evolution and the missing link. The subject manner of prayer is often the case of direness and of the quality of last resort. However in prayer we are staring in the face of creation with our requests and it is important to acknowledge and understand that creation itself can and should be contemplated within the deeper recesses of prayer requests and in a sense we go to creation in our prayer requests.

Aren't we just engrafted onto the Jews? Aren't we to keep their traditions and customs?

I came across this question recently from a friend, and I was shocked that anyone would think this way.

I can understand where this misconception came from with many of the prominent preachers telling us that we must go back to our Jewish roots, that we must wear a Tallit, a prayer shawl, when we pray.

I've heard a well-known preacher insist that without the Tallit, the woman with the issue of blood would have never been healed. It wasn't by Jesus' Tallit that the woman was healed. It was because of the compassion of Jesus.

What about the ones that tell us that God won't help us unless we give in the Jewish holy day offerings, such as Passover? Urging us give money for atonement offerings? By giving in an atonement offering, we are saying that Jesus' death, burial and resurrection wasn't enough to save us all from Hell.

Everyone needs Jesus, even those of the Jewish faith. They will not automatically go to Heaven because they are born Jewish.

God sent Jesus to fulfill the requirements of the law for us, so that we wouldn't have to because He knew we couldn’t. Once we accept Jesus and that He died for the punishment for all our sins and that God raised Him from the dead, we are in Christ.

Once we are in Christ, we are no longer Jew or Greek, male or female (Galatians 3:28). We are all on equal footing. We are all kings and priests through Christ Jesus' shed blood (Revelation 1:6). We are all a part of the family of God.

People are still putting us under the Old Testament laws by telling us that we must obey every commandment in the Old and New Testaments.

We are not saved by keeping the law. We are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:5), by the shed blood of Jesus, which makes us righteous.

Guess what happens when we walk in grace? When we receive God's grace in our lives? We end up fulfilling the law with no effort, with no toil, with no pain.

Jesus died for our sins--past, present and future. Not until we sin again. No, the blood of Jesus is continually cleansing us (I John 1:7).

This is where so many people miss it. They think we are only cleansed until we sin again. No, that is like saying whenever anyone sins in the whole world, we have to find Jesus and re-crucify Him. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross, once we have accepted what Jesus did for us, His blood continually cleanses us.

What if we sin? We tell God we’re sorry and move on. Don’t dwell on it. Many Christians today are sin-minded instead of conscious of what Jesus did for them on the cross.

Instead of being conscious of our sins, which Jesus already bore on the cross, we need to take the focus off ourselves and put it on Jesus. What He did is so much more important.

When we follow the Jewish traditions of atonement, or customs, they are all about us and what we have to do to be saved. The focus is on us doing the work.

However it is not about us. It is about Christ and His sacrifice for us. That must become the focus of our lives.

In the wilderness, snakes bite the children of Israel. God told Moses to raise a brass serpent. Whoever looked at the serpent, lived. Whoever didn’t, died (Numbers 21:8-9)

Jesus is our bronze serpent. If we look upon Him, we live. If we take our eyes off Him, we will live a miserable, dead existence, like most Believers do today.

They think they are happy, attending their dead church services, working their dead-end jobs to make ends meet, doing their Christian duties, but they are focused on themselves and their sin.

They are only one step up from a sinner. They are saved. They are going to Heaven, but they are miserable all the way there. They are not tapping into all that God has provided for them and wants them to have here on Earth. The health and prosperity of their souls, minds and pocket books (III John 2).

They cannot fulfill the assignments on their lives without tapping into the resources God has made available to them.

The reason we are on this planet is to fulfill our destinies, the assignment God put on our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). It is not about performing rituals and obeying traditions. It is about doing what Jesus did on this Earth. It is about taking our abilities and doing what God called us to do.

What God calls us to do is never selfish. It always involves us presenting the Gospel to others so that they can receive the Truth of Jesus Christ.

We have a surge of athletes giving glory to God on television after games. We have actors and musicians mentioning God at television award shows. This is only going to increase as time goes on, I suspect, as more accept Christ.

We must take our eyes off of traditions and rituals and instead focus solely on Jesus, the only acceptable Sacrifice. He died so that we might have life.

Thinking we can keep the law and earn our way to Heaven is death. The more we try to keep the law, the more we fail.

Therefore we do not live under the law but under grace. Grace is the only way to fulfill the law.

We cannot do anything to please God on our own. We cannot love on our own. We cannot be kind on our own. We cannot be good on our own. We are not capable of doing anything good on our own (John 15:5).

We must have God's love and grace flowing through us in order for us to be kind, loving and considerate. We have to draw from His resources not ours.

Are we engrafted onto the Jews when we become saved? No. We are engrafted into the family of God, adopted into His family (Ephesians 1:5).

Does that mean we must follow the traditions of the Jews? No, because traditional Jews haven't come to the realization of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, who is the only way to Heaven.

To follow traditions and ritual that negate the need for Jesus, that don't center around Jesus, is like saying He doesn't exist and He does. He died for us. He took our sins, sickness, poverty and pain. He rose from the dead.

Now which would you rather live under grace? Or the law?

We ask you God, is the bloodshed in war torn countries really necessary? We ask you God, are Tsunamis and cyclones which cause death of millions really necessary? And God what of the evil doers which without reason kill and plot to maim. God is it really necessary to continue to let them live? The list of "I ask you God" questions is never ending. Proof comes to the fore when we find ourselves in a crisis or that of facing an ordeal of which we turn to god for help - or more often than not to rest blame upon him. Why is it all Gods fault when all wrong doings are a result of our own actions?

At the time of creation the lord gave us the right to choose how we live our lives in hope it would be in peace and harmony and to love one another, not choose evil where many diseased with so much hatred gets satisfaction from others suffering. Is that saying "an act of God" reason enough to blame him yet once again for the cruel disasters? I think it is time to think before making assumptions. These merciless events we have experienced lately could they not have anything to do with interfering with nature, like that of the man made goods which affect the ozone layer, or is scientific study the cause of so much sorrow which have us question where the blame lies.

Could it be behaviour of man affecting our planet i.e. polluting the air, the seas and the disruption of ecosystems which rapidly encourages climate-related disasters which are striking populations in China, Burma and other regions? Who is guilty of the disruption and destruction of the planet.

My love for God gets stronger everyday in prayer for keeping me and those close safe. Fortunately and not wanting to tempt fate we have lived our lives unscathed from harm and live under no threat from earthquake or terrorists bombs. However if ever fate should befall upon me, I dear lord will not point the finger of suspicion in your direction but towards that of my neighbour.

Prayer is the answer for those who believe, it helps ease heartache pain and suffering. Even for those who disbelieve and in denial, prayer too can be the answer.

The death toll from last week's earthquake in south-west China has risen to 40,075, many of which were children. Those who survived now struggle to survive to find shelter for their families. The search goes on for the tens of thousands still missing. Cyclone Nargis has run up the death toll figure in Burma to 78,000. It is said that another 56,000 people are missing. According to local estimates up to 80,000 people died alone around the delta township of Laputta - which had a population of 350,000. Another disaster which not only shocked the world but killed a great many too was the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake. It was an undersea earthquake that occurred at 00:58:53 UTC December 26th (Boxing Day) with an epicenter off the west coast of Sumatra Indonesia. A string of tsunamis followed this.

The number of people believed killed in December's tsunami disaster in Jakarta was 294 000

Indonesia was hardest-hit by December 26th earthquake with a total loss of 240 774 people listed as dead or missing Thailand's toll remained at 5 393 confirmed dead. A further 3 071 people were listed as missing. One of the hardest hit was Sri Lanka losing 30 957 inhabitants to the Tsunami.

For those not close in proximity and are affected by these disasters and want to help even if it is only to give a cuddle then unfortunately and realistically this may never happen due to distance or that of the authorities denying you access. The best way is to send money to the right groups who already have organizations on the ground, working to provide lifesaving essentials to the victims. Donations can be made to a group that's on the front lines, engaged in crucial, person-to-person rescue efforts: Tzu-Chi (tzuchi.org/global) Tzu-Chi is an organization made up mainly of volunteers. Almost 100% of donations go directly to the suffering who need food, water, medical care and somewhere to sleep.

We need to pay more attention to how we treat our planet to help prevent future "natural" disasters. Who is to blame, Yes we know cyclones, hurricanes, tsunamis have occurred on our planet long before human life started upsetting the climate, however over the last six years we have noticed an evident acceleration of climate-related disasters.

There is no doubt that man-made climate change is now altering, which we connect to floods and hurricanes. What next? these events of late are but small blips in comparison to the planetary backlash that may be on its way. The population correction that's on its way over the next 100 years involves hunger, illness, soil crop failures and drought which could result in the loss of a billion lives. Can we prevent needless deaths, yes by making changes which include a radical change in CO2 emmissions, reduce toxic chemical use, agricultural reforms and end genetic pollution through GM crops. Our government need to take these matters seriously and make our planet safe for our kids – there kids and so on.

Is there a trip you've always wanted to take or sacred sites you have always dreamed of visiting? Why haven't you been there? Does what's holding you back have to do with how busy you feel you are, and how you cannot afford to take this time away? If you have ever thought that you didn't deserve time for yourself, you are wrong. Many people make choices in their everyday lives that deprive them of wonderful experiences because they have somehow gotten the idea into their head that they do not deserve it.

Now, it may seem like an obvious thing, but for many, self-worth is a concept that falls to the wayside when dealing with family and work. Taking time for yourself might not always seem to be essential, and compared to activities such as eating, drinking water, sleeping and breathing, it isn't. If all we had to do to live was eat, sleep and breathe, those might be pretty good indicators of a life well lived. The human live is so much more complex, more intense than just simple survival skills. Our hearts and minds are constantly interacting with our living, breathing bodies. Having the time to breathe and reconnect is essential.

Reconnecting with yourself, with the earth, and with divinity can be done anyplace, at any time. However, until this is a natural practice, it is often best stimulated by sights that are new and inspirations that are intensely moving. Spiritual travel can be a wonderful way to give yourself the time time and space to open up and really see what your life is all about. You need not make a spiritual pilgrimage to experience what might be termed a a spiritual journey. Your trip might indeed involve teachers of great wisdom, but it might also involve visiting some of the holy sites of the word and seeing for yourself what has been preserved of old civilizations and the land they called holy.

The idea that all people will have an intense personal reaction to the same sights is frankly quite ridiculous, but there is certainly value in group trips-- as long as the destination calls to you. When traveling in such a group, look for those who are actually aimed at a more spiritually-minded trip. Having others around you who are looking to have their own experience can provide a sense on camaraderie, although it is a journey that you will take alone in many ways. While you may share your joy and the growth that comes from deeper understanding, each person must find within themselves their own truth. No one else can find it for you; the most anyone else can do is give you tools to help you along your way.

Regardless of where you travel and what you see, spiritual travel will be a live-changing experience. Often times, all it takes is the ability to step out of your everyday reality. What you learn will be carried with you for the rest of your days, and if you work hard, will affect each and every moment in a positive fashion.

Just what if everything we knew about the universe and the world around us was completely wrong, what then?

Just what if God wanted our faith to be unparalleled, radically unequaled and unable to be proven or disproved by so-called modern scientific evidence, what then?

Just what if we paused for a moment and asked the question that is on all of our minds, ‘why does science feel it necessary to disprove faith? Faith doesn’t wish to disprove science, what then?

Just what if science was able to prove the religious leaning view of some sort of ‘connectivity’ between humans? In other words, we humans are more connected to each other than we are separate, what then?

Just what if we were so bold and unscientific as to offer our reason and proof of the truth of ‘connectivity’ by illuminating the fact that whenever humans attempt to hurt another, they most times end up hurting themselves more, what then?

Just what if we all were granted a ‘God’s view’ or a ‘moment of clarity’ and we all came to the understanding that everything we do and/or will do while in this life was just a series of trials and tests to mold and prepare us for the next world, what then?

Just what if for a moment God stopped time and revealed Himself plainly to us and said, ‘I don’t care if you continue to blame Me for all of this mess. You may continue if you wish, however, understand that it won’t help get you to where you want to be’. If so, what then?

Just what if we could ask God just one question that He would answer plainly to us; could God answer it easily by saying, you didn’t receive because you didn’t ask or you didn’t ask right’, if so what then?

Just what if all the small details didn’t matter one way or the other to God; what if He only wanted us to acknowledge Him and to ask of Him, ‘fatherly assistance’ for whatever we were currently experiencing, what then?

Just what if God reminded us to maintain the fragile balance of prayer for ourselves and prayers for others. God wants us praying more for others in need than for ourselves? Why? Because He already knows what we need and has already promised to provide for us. However, this doesn’t mean that we should not pray for ourselves, simply pray more for others. If we did, what then?

Just what if it became known to us, that by doubting the meanings and promises of God, it was considered as affront to calling our parents liars, to their face, what then?

Just what if in the blink of an eye, it became common knowledge that the reason some people disbelieve God and His rules is because their doubt becomes a pass or an excuse to do as they wish. What then?

Just what if we discovered that our disbelief, skepticism and irreverent thoughts on prayer, as well as our doubting of God, was found to actually block the flow of essential miracles and ‘Godly intervention’ for us and the entire world, what then?

Just what if we spent a whole lifetime wanting more and more to ad nauseam, as well as ‘needing’ things to be, just a certain way before we could begin doing what God wanted us to do, what then?

Just what if there was an abundance of gratuitous pain and suffering, all around us? What if we didn’t stop to pray about it or even take a moment to console another? What if we didn’t because we were more focused on convincing God that we needed a ‘second home’ at the lake for weekends or for some other ‘more’, what then?

Just what if we all were too busy counting the things we didn’t have in relation to others rather than thanking God for all the blessings He has already granted unto us, what then?

Just what if all that happens to us and to the world around us, is nothing more than a big game of Divine hide and go seek with sets of tests and trials to mold and prepare us for what is to comes next? What then?

Just what if we were to completely apperceive that God has a calculated process to bring all things around to the way He wants and we needn’t worry about the process because that just isn’t our job, then what?

Just what if we were to understand that our God is the kind of God that gave us all the rules and when we didn’t follow the rules He sent His Son to pay the penalty for our rule breaking, what then?

Just what if we conscientiously made the decision to stop listening to the philosophy and ‘modern science’ of this world and focused more on God’s words, meanings and promises, what then?

Just what if one day we found it easy to all say, ‘not my will, but your will be done Lord,’ and truly meant it, what then?

Just what if all at once mankind would come to remember that it is how we forgive another as to how God is to forgive us, what then?

Just what if I was so emboldened as to purposely catechize life from diametrical and diverging ‘what ifs’? No need to ever be offended by the results or by ‘it’; for ‘it’ is the subjunctive mood I am sporting that leads to such revealing, what then’s?

Kenya has been largely peaceful even long before its independence from the British in 1963, safe for a few isolated cases of skirmishes here and there. It has been the regional safe haven for refugees from all the neighbouring countries. People from Somali, Uganda, Rwanda and the Sudan have for many years made Kenya their home due to political instability in their respective countries.

Political differences however almost plunged the country into a civil war early this year. Claims of a stolen election result and highly charged ethnic differences divided the country into two major groups, the victims and the culprits. Whether or not the election results were rigged to favour either party, remains a complex issue that legal experts are still trying to unravel.

But all is well that ends well. The two leading rivals in Kenya politics, president Mwai Kibaki and prime minister Raila Odinga agreed to form a coalition government returning the country to sanity. People who had been displaced from their homes are returning back home. Kenya will soon return to the usual path of peace and progress.

The quick resolution of the Kenyan solution can be attributed to the fast response by the International community. From the onset, the world made it clear that they will not sit aside and watch Kenya degenerate into another Rwanda. There was massive coverage of events by the day, in the international media. The situation was not bad enough to warrant the international community to send in peace keepers, but they seemed ready for any eventuality.

It is easy to say that had the international community not taken a firm stand about Kenya, the country would have slipped to a full scale civil war. But the religious college of elders who are in charge of the shrines up Mount Kenya hold a different view. Their spokesman, who prefers to be called the Chief Seer's messenger, warned the country of the situation as early as 2006. He was in a one man's campaign to save a country through a radio programme. He however assured the people that there are certain guarantees that God gives the Kenyan people as long as the Ark of the covenant is in the country. The country can never go to a full scale war.

Another preacher from the US, Thomas Manton also gave a detailed prophesy about Kenya, the troubled elections, who the winner will be, the troubled aftermath and what the country expects to see in the next five years. He described the country as a Holy Nation in his message. So far, his prophesy has been opening page for page with what the country is witnessing.

This brings us to the question, why hasn't Kenya taken the initiative to market itself as a place of God? Why is there no designed place of worship around Mount Kenya, for people wishing to have quiet moments with God? A study of religious tourism statistics from around the world shows just what the country could be missing. Israel, is a an ideal example of where tourism based on religion can take a country.

Being home to most sites mentioned in the New Testament, Israel receives tourists throughout the year, the security situation not withstanding. The yearly visits to the Kaaba in Saudi Arabia for Muslims is also another example of highly successful tourism based on religion. It looks like it is a highly protected policy to keep everything about the Mount Kenya shrines as top secrets, but in a world that has been made a global village in this communication age, there will be wisdom in sharing some of the mysteries surrounding the shrines. At the very minimum, a place of prayer and worship should be set aside for Christians to be able to identify with the Mountain of God.

It could pass for the best kept secret anywhere in the world. For eight hundred years, a selected number of people have known about it, but have jealously guarded the knowledge only letting it pass to highly vetted chosen few whose induction course takes years to complete.

They did not want to divulge the information. But due to the seriousness of the issue at hand, it became necessary that the Kenyan people be warned in advance of the impending danger their beloved motherland was in, in 2007. Telling the people turned to be a much more complex problem than originally anticipated therefore meaning that a detailed education programme had to be initiated.

They commissioned a radio programme with the country's national broadcaster. One of their students who likes being called the Chief Seer's messenger, became the co presenter and educator.

It is through this radio programme that Kenyans heard for the first time that they were the custodians of the much sort after original Ark Of The Covenant, and have been since the year 1210. They were also told of a council of twelve elders who are in charge of two shrines up Mount Kenya, one containing the actual Ark and the other containing scrolls that came alongside the Ark and were also hidden up the mountain. The elders operate in secrecy to guard their wisdom.

For only the second time in history, the elders had to seek special intervention from God, and this time round they wanted the community to be involved. No one knew about them, or any authority they held over others. There was no ground whatsoever of making a largely committed Christian community revert to the old ways of worship, facing Mount Kenya.

The radio programme gradually became a must listen Tuesday evening date. Listeners initially became hostile, trying to dismiss the presenter as a conservative traditionalist. But due to his thorough knowledge of the community's history and the Bible, it did not take long for him to assert his authority in matters religion.

Through the programme, communities around Mount Kenya i.e. the Kikuyu, Embu and Meru were called upon to fast and hold prayers on 20th, 21st and 22nd November 2007 to pray specially for their country. They were warned that the country was headed for civil war and God's intervention was necessary.

At that point, the seriousness of the situation was not clear. It is not the first time Kenya was holding elections, and every election was followed by skirmishes since 1992. This year was not any different and it will come and go. When the election results were announced on December 30th however, all hell broke loose. The opposition slogan of us verses them was put into context.

The Kikuyu, who have investments and dwellings spread all over Kenya, became instant targets. They were hunted down, their houses torched, whole families massacred and even a church burnt to kill those therein. Their kin elsewhere chased people from other communities away. The fast contagious killings soon engulfed the better part of the country. No one was safe to travel any more. The magnitude of the problem became so pronounced that it took the international community to help mediate in restoring peace.

At the end of the day, 1500 people were reported dead and 350,000 were left homeless, living as internally displaced persons. To date the resettlement programme is continuing. It is only by the grace of God that the country did not degenerate into civil war.

It took the threat of civil war for this secretive college of elders to share the secrets of the shrines up Mount Kenya. It is now upon scholars and religion historians to take up the offer for opening up one of the shrines to dig for more secrets from up the Mountain of God.

Our culture tends to view sex as merely a physical activity. For some of us, before we were married it was intimate, new and exciting – we wanted it all the time. But after we got married, it became boring and a chore. Establishing true intimacy takes time and the results are greater than merely a physical relationship. Throughout the bible it states that a man either “lay with” her or “knew” her. To lay with her was merely a physical encounter which after a while can become boring. But to “know” someone is to take the time to see what pleases him/her. It is to know your spouse in every way: physically, emotionally, mentally, etc. That is why couples who are dating or engaged should abstain from sex until marriage so they can really get to know one another. This is God’s plan and sets you on the road to a healthy relationship and obedience to God. However for most of us, we now have to deal with the issues of keeping intimacy and sex exciting. Regardless of where you and your spouse are sexually, there are ways to heal and re-establish intimacy in your marriage.

Whether you are just starting your marriage or hoping to reconnect, it can be difficult to take down the defenses long enough to be truly intimate with your spouse. To truly enjoy sex and intimacy, you will need to let your guard down and show yourself to your spouse in a trusting, loving way. This can be tougher than it sounds as it puts you in a vulnerable position. In a secure and loving relationship, vulnerability should not be an issue, but sometimes we hang on to outdated defense mechanisms out of habit. Even when our spouses have betrayed our trust or hurt us in some way, we must trade in our feelings of insecurity, vulnerability, and suspicion with feelings of oneness, closeness, and trust – if we want to rebuild the intimacy.

As you open up to each other, surround each other with caring concern, show unconditional love and support. Never – ever laugh at a spouse for a sexual overture. This is not only degrading at the moment but will set the stage for insecurity in the future. If you don’t really like the lingerie she walks into the room wearing, do not comment on it in a mocking way. Try to appreciate the attempt she is making and notice the love and attention she is bringing to the relationship. Likewise, if he does not live up to your expectations every single time you make love, be kind about it. He is, after all, just a man and not a machine. Enjoy the closeness and don’t take for granted the love he is showing you.

All attitudes of trust, commitment, and closeness will translate to the bedroom. For women, when we are tired, we just don’t feel sexy and we do not want to make love. Our attitude is ‘don’t touch me’. However, if we just ask the Lord for strength and mentally prepare ourselves, we will enjoy our time with our spouses. Also, share your needs with your spouse and listen with an open mind to their needs and desires. Rather than falling into a safe routine, communicate positively about what you want sexually while being aware of the other’s needs. Your emotional connection will help you to be free to make a more meaningful physical connection. Rather than going through the motions of a performed routine, you can really connect in a spiritual and physical way.

Trust and openness can be particularly difficult if you have suffered from infidelity in a relationship in the past. Many people seeking marriage advice online are having problems of infidelity in their relationship with their current partner. Good advice for marriage is all about establishing trust and commitment within the relationship. Start where you are now. The History of St. Johnâs Lutheran Church

In 1916, the Iowa Synod Lutheran Church began mission work, which resulted in the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kimball, Nebraska. Those who served as pastors during those early years of the congregation were Karl Fenske, 1916; M. Scherf in 1917; Emil A. Stein, 1918; Gustave Schultz, 1922, and H. Stennfeld until January 1929. Elmer Nagel was the first listed baptism of the congregation in 1916.

This church was divided in January 1929, because some of the parishioners preferred the services be held in German, while other parishioners preferred to hear the service in English. Pastor H. Stennfeld, who served the congregation, left St. John’s Lutheran Church to serve as pastor for the new English Lutheran Church, which is the current ELCA in Kimball.

The church property on the north side of town (located on Main Street) remained with the German-speaking members. It was later purchased by the Missouri Synod.

On January 27, 1929, Wilbert Werling, a student pastor in the Missouri Synod, held an evening worship service. Werling was working at the Potter Lutheran Church at that time. He also conducted the first Bible Study class on Thursday evening, January 31, 1929. The topic was: The Bible—The Word of God.

Rev. G. H. Boehnke, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran congregation of Potter, Nebraska first held service in Kimball during the latter part of August 1929. This service was held in the Fraternal Hall on Second and Chestnut Streets in Kimball, where services continued for several weeks until the church and parsonage on the north side of town were acquired from the Iowa Synod. Services were conducted both in German and English.

In the late fall of 1929, St. John’s congregation was organized by Pastor Boehnke, and became a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. As the congregation grew, a need for a minister of its own became clear. The congregation, with the Mission Board of the Southern Nebraska District, Lutheran Church, sent a call to Rev. C. P. Pebler. He was installed on March 30, 1930, serving until 1948.

During Rev. Pebler’s ministry in Kimball, a parochial school was established. The first teacher was his son, Carl Pebler, in the fall of 1930. Other teachers were Oscar Lutz from 1934 to 1936 and Theodore Hartmann from 1936 to 1942.

Succeeding Pebler was Rev. Albert C. Esch, who served the congregation for about three years. Pastor Esch accepted a call to another state. Rev. G.H. Boehnke, who was instrumental in organizing the congregation in 1929, was called. He was installed the last Sunday in November 1951.

After the first oil well was discovered southwest of Kimball, more oil rigs and people moved into the county. New housing projects began to spring up in the area, as well as expanded schoolhouses and churches.

In 1953 the congregation decided to relocate, and to build a new church and parsonage. A church site, just outside the city limits at that time, on the southwest edge of Kimball, was purchased. The address is now 601 South Locust Street. A building committee consisted of Keith Larsen, Chairman, and members Chester Phelps, Herman Adels, Victor Schneider, R.J. Schukei, and Reuben Fritzler. The groundbreaking ceremonies for the new church took place on April 15, 1956. The new building was dedicated on July 14, 1957. Attendance the last Sunday in the “old church” was 155. Attendance at the dedication of the new church was 452 in the morning service and 369 in the afternoon.

The greater part of the construction of the new building was done by members of the congregation under the supervision of Victor Schneider and later under Pat Lacy. Officers of the congregation at the time were: Elders—Patrick Lacy, Elmer Nagel, and Walter Kellner; Chairman—John Abramson; Vice Chairman Alvin Schukei; Secretary R. J. Schukei; and Treasurer Harold Heidemann.

The building with Norman brick facing, measures 99 ½ feet by 42 ½ feet. Low arches of laminated wood support the roof, and steel bar joists support the floor. The main entrance to the building is on ground level. It has a full basement with a kitchen and a recreation hall which is also used for Sunday School and Bible classes.

More real estate was purchased just south of the church grounds for a new parsonage. The ground was broken on May 10, 1958. The building was completed and dedicated on October 11, 1959.

Pastor Boehnke retired from the active ministry in September 1962. On the second Sunday in May 1963, Rev. Walter Klipp was installed as pastor.

When the debt on the church and the parsonage was paid, it was signaled by a special mortgage-burning ceremony on March 12, 1967.

In the early spring of 1972, Pastor Klipp accepted a call to a congregation south of McCook, Nebraska. The Kimball congregation applied to the seminary for a candidate and in May, Candidate Alvin Jeske of Springfield Seminary was assigned to St. John’s. He was installed on August 6, 1972 and served the congregation through June of 1976.

Rev. Richard L. Arndt accepted the call to pastor St. John’s. He was installed in October 1976. He left on January 28, 1981, when he accepted a call to the Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska. visit http://lcmsstjohns.org/stjohn/history.pdf

The Rev. Herbert Miller of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming served as vacancy pastor until May 31, 1981, when Rev. John F. Hennig of Ft. Collins, Colorado was installed. Pastor Hennig retired from the active ministry on December 31, 1983, but continued to serve the congregation until the installation of Rev. Francis Koessel of Saratoga, Wyoming, on May 6, 1984.

Pastor Koessel accepted a call to Texas and left the congregation in 1994. Pastor Thomas Jacobsen was called to serve as the vacancy minister. The St. John’s congregation called Pastor Jacobsen to serve as their full-time minister. He accepted this call and served the congregation from 1994 until May 4, 2003, when he retired.

Pastor Bradley Heinecke of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Sidney, Nebraska served as a vacancy minister. On June 8, 2003, we installed Vicar Darrel Eggert of the Ft. Wayne Seminary to serve the position of vicar and assist Pastor Heinecke in our congregational needs. Vicar Eggert left in March, 2004. In July, 2004, we installed Vicar Earl Brown of Ft. Wayne Seminary to assist Pastor Heinecke. Vicar Brown left in July 2005.

There is no law of limitation except that which is self imposed. Most have literally been programmed, like a computer, with what computer people term GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). That is, most have been subjected to repeated messages teaching self doubt, fear, anxiety, etc. This programmed language of limitation has become your life script, your expectation and therefore most of your reality. It comes from our past programming-things we learned in childhood in three 3 primary ways: Verbal Conditioning - what we heard; Modeling - what we saw; and Specific Incidents - what we experienced. All of these experiences get stored in what is called your subconscious mind, which acts like a hard drive on your computer, which is the source of your belief system, the way you view yourself and the world. The secret to your success comes from within. The thoughts you think, the beliefs you hold have everything to do with your confidence, your self love your belief in yourself, your perception of the world, everything that you think you are, are based on thoughts (which really only exist inside of your head). These thoughts attract to you experiences that you expect. And it might seem that no matter how hard you try to succeed there's always something pulling you down, getting in the way, or holding you back from achieving your dreams.

This is because many self-sabotaging patterns reside in the subconscious and are completely unconscious, yet they undermine your best intentions. Rich and Successful people think differently than unsuccessful people. They think differently about money, wealth, themselves, other people and pretty well every other facet of life. That's why they're rich and successful. Their choices and decisions just naturally produce wealth.

Imagine being stress-free? Where you're no longer in the rat race because you already made it.

Imagine being healed of all your sickness-physical or mental? Where your aches and pain is a distant memory.

Imagine moving on to bigger and better things? That even when past memories are still there, the power that these past memories have will MELT away.

Now here's the cool part, as you envision in your head these wonderful things... Well, they are the starting point of a new reality!

The latest buzzword flung around these days is the Law of Attraction... Where simply put-where you focus your mind, is what it would attract. The potential is UNLIMITED.

If you visualize healing, you will be healed.

Unfortunately, the problem is that the seemingly simple act of controlling your thoughts is INFINITELY harder than it looks.

And suddenly, we find ourselves back to square one.

You see, learning to control your mind is not a sheer question of will. If it were, millions of others would long be liberated.

You would have long being liberated.

You must be connected to a system which is able to teach you the secrets of controlling your mind, rising above the chains of mass consciousness and false limitations and seizing your inner potential.

I Can Do All Things in Christ

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. — Philippians 4:13

I once heard a story about a man who decided to bet his last five dollars on a horse race. After he placed his bet, he prayed, “Please, Lord, help me win this one bet.” As the race started, the man’s horse fell into the middle of the pack. “Lord,” he prayed, “please help my horse win.” When the horses approached the final turn, his horse was a distant fourth. “Please, God,” the man prayed desperately, “let me win.” On the home stretch, his horse took the lead and was poised to win everything. “Thanks, God,” the man prayed. “I can take it from here.”

Some of us think we can do everything by ourselves. We are very confident and rarely think that we need to rely on God’s grace. Then, there are those of us who tend to get overwhelmed by life and lose confidence when faced with challenges. We tend to let the task before us defeat us, believing that we can’t do anything. Finally, there are those who, like the man at the racetrack, tend to turn to God on a “pick-and-choose” basis.

Contrast all three of these personality types with St. Paul’s confident but humble statement: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). If he were alive today, Paul would probably tell those of us in the first category to be more humble. Then, he would probably tell those of us in the second category that we really can be overcomers through the power of God. As for the man at the racetrack, he’d probably just tell him to stop gambling.

It Begins with Christ

What does it mean to do all things through Christ? It begins with our relationship with Jesus. It begins as we talk to him and listen for his voice. That’s how we receive his grace and peace. Then it develops in our daily lives as we watch the fruit of that grace move us to a deeper faith and a greater confidence in Christ. Over time, we begin to follow Paul’s example of rejoicing in the Lord and giving thanks to him for all he has done and all he wants to do in us (Philippians 4:4-6).

Of course, prayer is only part of the equation. If we want to find God’s strength to do all things, we also need to work at building a holy disposition by setting our minds on what is true and noble, and lovely, admirable and right (Philippians 4:8-9). That’s when our confidence really grows, because we can see God quietly working in us, raising up our desires and filling our efforts with his grace.

So whether you tend to be confident or unsure of yourself, it’s time to let the Holy Spirit transform you. It’s time to take steps, both in prayer and in your daily life, that will help you become absolutely convinced that you can do anything in Christ.

God gives us faith to sustain us. No matter what your tragedy is or was, you and I are still here for a reason. You might not realize it, but you are living by faith to sustain you. We can't see it but God gives it to us to sustain us. We're still here aren't we? Why? Because we have faith there must be something more for us. If we didn't have it we might just choose to end it all. In other words, If this is all there is why keep living? Why spend the little energy we have left from our tragedy to keep on going in a place we don't want to be anyway?

Thank God Almighty that there is so much more. The reason I keep living is for the "after party". Why? Because I have faith there is one. Oh and what a party it will be. We will land at the gates of Heaven and the first ones we'll see there to greet us will be the ones that had to leave earth before us. Our broken hearts will be a thing of the past.

O.K. you might be asking, "how do I get this faith?". The bible says that it comes by hearing the word of God. So you read the bible and you go to church to hear the minister read it and then your faith is increased. Pray and ask God to carry you in your time of need. Believe me when I tell you that if I didn't have faith that there is a Heaven I'd leave this world. I lost my beautiful son Josiah when he was only 17 to a semi truck hitting the car he was in. My oldest son Gabriel was in the car following and saw the accident and Josiah died in Gabriel's arms. 10 months later when it was time for Josiah to graduate high school Gabriel was having a very hard time and took a drug to cope and it killed him. His roommates found him dead at his computer. I want to see my boys so bad. My heart is completely shattered. Josiah was famous for always telling people to "keep on keepin' on". I have to keep going to inspire others and then on that special day (when God says it's time, not me) I will go to Heaven to spend eternity with God and my boys. Compared to eternity this life is a short season, so "keep on keepin on".

Faith does sustain us. The bible says that if we believe that Jesus is the son of God and died for our sins that we're saved. I asked Jesus to live in my heart 34 years ago. I'm not perfect just forgiven. We just have to ask Jesus to live in our heart and ask him to help us to live the way we know we should.

There can be no limitation.

Since we are dealing with the infinite principles of God, no possible limitation can be placed upon it. It is man’s choice to extract from God’s storehouse in how much infinite power he/she is willing to experience. It is a matter of acceptance. The principles of God’s laws are continues because they are infinite in His nature. The scope of man’s knowledge is extremely limited but even though man cannot comprehend all there is, he can adjust to it in small increments. In 1900 man could not comprehend talking on cellular phones yet they are commonplace today. In the field of medicine, EKG recorders, ultrasound machines, halter recorders, defibrillators just to name a few, were not even thought of only a few years age.

Principles of God are always present

To reiterate, the principles of God are always there; waiting to be discovered, they are infinite in stature, never change nor do they ever dissipate; they only add to the experience of man and magnificence of God. The principles of God are as intensive and as extensive as He is, for they encompass all of what He is. God is the depth and width of existence within Himself. He is the essence of all prognostics. Nothing can happen, or exist without His controlling principles.

How much man can discover is left in the hands of man. God puts no limitations only responsibilities.

Forces at work

The principalities of God are His forces at work. God is invisible Spirit, which is the purest of all energy. He uses angelic forces to commutate throughout His creation.

Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and

invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were

created by him, and for him:

Evil is a principality of God. God clearly says He is jealous, wrathful, and judging. These characteristics are the measure of good. Evil exist to justify good. God justifies evil as a test of man’s endurance. Humans cannot understand well unless there is something to gauge it by. Evil complements good it makes it viable, understandable and worthy.

Evil

Ex 32:12 Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.

Ex 32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do to his people.

Wrathful

De 9:8 Also in Horeb you provoked the LORD to wrath,, so that the LORD was angry with you to have destroyed you.

De 29:28 And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

Jealous

Ex 20:5 You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Jos 24:19 And Joshua said to the people, You cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

Na 1:2 God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.

IT’S A TUG OF WAR WORLD

Many times Christians are disliked for reasons other than being religious. Christians like to think it is because they are spiritual it tends to irritate people, when in reality, it may be their annoying personality.

It is true that the impure spirit of the world is opposed to the pure Spirit of God. All humans born are accountable to him who is born of the Spirit. Taking into full consideration the weakness of man to the attraction of the world it becomes clear that some Christians tend to irritate people through their own personality faults instead of through their trying to imitate the qualities of Jesus Christ. The Christian community may as well admit this and do something about it. It does no good to try and hide unpleasantness and annoying dispositions behind a verse of Scripture. This avenue of behavior is detrimental and serves to alienate the nonbeliever from Jesus Christ.

Social Sins Are Tolerable

Strangely enough, it is a fact of life that social sins are more tolerable and always more attractive than spiritual ones. The world can tolerate a liar, thief, drunkard or glutton but will turn its’ fury against a Christian’s outwardly righteous life who is guilty of being a hypocrite. The nonbeliever may not recognize this as a sin but to the Christian it may be more exceeding sinful than the sins of the flesh. Christians must be in the world but not of the world in order to survive the world.

The world beckons, trying to seduce the Spiritual Person into its’ existence. It tries to make the Spiritual Person its’ own, its’ lover, its’ faithful servant.

Rev 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the

bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great

men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

In today’s world of inventive imagination the church is more active than ever, but less attuned to Jesus Christ. The church has turned into a social club with all the bells and whistles of self fulfillment. Where is the dedication, the discipleship, the fervor? Has the light, indeed grown dim?

Wealth is a state of being

It appears the old adage "the rich get richer and the poor get poorer" has become a call of acceptance in today’s hectic world. This philosophy has gained more widespread acceptance today then ever before. Clearly, family relationships have become strained to the breaking point by the many external forces that are exerted on them. While many fail those who survive are better equipage and stronger for it. While survival may breed the instinct to endure in the jungle, it's the survival instinct that separates winners from the weakness of failure. Those who never try, fall beside the road and are trampled by those who are willing to take a calculated risk. The act of not trying is a sin in itself because it is an act of defeat, and God is not a defeatist.

1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

The promise of Christ is no secret. He clearly tells us to ask and he will provide.

John 16:23 And in that day you shall ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, Whatever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

24 Till now have you asked nothing in my name: ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.

The days of waste

In recent times, the mismanagement of resources and money have spawned an atmosphere of Government mistrust, expected disappointments and failures this does not have to be. People are only accountable to their environment as much or little as they accepted it as the truth of their reality. Truth is always truth but false wraps itself around the soul and dampens the spirit. It's easy to fall pray to someone else’s negative thinking.

No one wants to fail

No one wakes up each morning deliberately wanting to fail. But the fact is, most people will be dependent on some outside source such as social services, relatives or friends, charity, or part-time work during their twilight years. As the life expectancy grows longer, additional people spend more years in quite desperation. This sickness has become their plight and one of growing concern for a nation founded on God’s principles and known for its' abundance.

Did you ever wonder why the Bible is so hard to read? It’s simple really. God is looking for people who are willing to pursue Him. The Bible is like a gold mine. Now, if I were to give you a real live gold mine, would you just walk in and pick up the gold? No, of course not. You have to dig for it, but the reward is incredibly valuable. I promise if you dig into the Bible you’ll find secrets FAR more valuable than just gold.

The Bible is also like is a jigsaw puzzle. It’s not until you complete it that you really start to grasp the whole picture. I encourage you most strongly to make a decision to read the whole Bible. My secrets in this article will help you.

1.) Get A Version You Can Understand. The Living Bible is the easiest to read, but it is a paraphrase, not a translation. This means that the translators tried to translate the meaning of the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek, not the exact words.

The New American Standard Version (NASB) is generally accepted as the most accurate modern translation. It was translated with the benefit of the findings of the Dead Sea Scrolls (1946) and the storeroom of Ezra (Egypt, 1872) which were not available in earlier English translations. It is still somewhat difficult to read, however.

The New International Version (NIV) is another painstakingly accurate modern translations, but it is very readable. It too is highly recommended.

The King James Version and The Catholic Bible are the classic American Bibles, but they can be very difficult to read. If you are a member of a church, your Pastor or Priest may have a specific version that they recommend.

2.) Every Time Before You Read: Ask God to open your eyes and your heart to His Word.

3.) This Is The Order In Which To Read The Bible: The Bible is broken into two parts: The Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is the history of creation and the Jewish nation, along with stories, writings and warnings from God’s prophets.

The New Testament is the story of Jesus and the early Christian church along with instructions on how to be a Christian. We live under the New Testament - which is a new way of life which God set up through Jesus.

The first 4 books of the New Testament are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and are known as "The Gospels." (This means "Good News"). These are 4 different versions of the same story - The Life of Jesus. They are 4 eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ life. So read in this order:

Matthew, Romans, 1&2 Corinthians
Mark, Acts, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians
Luke, 1&2 Thessalonians, 1&2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James
John, 1&2 Peter, 1,2&3 John, Jude, Revelation

4.) Read One Chapter At A Time. This will take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes.

5. ) You Will Need The Following Tools: A pencil and a ruler.

6.) This Is How You Use The Pencil And Ruler: When you read, underline anything that strikes you as important or interesting. When you finish the chapter, look back over the things you’ve underlined and draw a box around the most important thing in the chapter.

When you finish a book, review your boxed verses and make a double box around the most important verse of the book. Doing this is simply a tool to help you realize what you’re reading. You will get much more out of reading the Bible this way.

7.) When You Finish The New Testament, START OVER - you will be amazed at how God’s Word is new & fresh every time you read it.

8.) After You Have Read The New Testament, Then You Can Add The Old Testament. Read the Old Testament in the order in which it appears in the Bible. To read the whole Bible in a year, you’ll need to read 1 chapter of the New Testament and 5-7 pages of the Old Testament.

Here’s the way to know the number of pages you’ll need to read: Take the total number of pages in the Old Testament and divide by 200. Let’s say the result is 5. Your goal will be to read 5 pages of the Old Testament 20 times a month for 10 months. Aim for everyday, but 20 times is the monthly must-have goal. This gives you 2 months of extra built-in leeway and 10 days leeway per month. If you get bogged down reading the Old Testament, turn to Psalms and Proverbs. But never give up reading the New Testament for the sake of reading the Old Testament.

9.) The Best Thing You Can Ever Do For Your Spiritual Life Is To Read The Whole Bible EVERY Year. WHY should you do this? Because it is where faith comes from. "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard through the word of Christ." Romans 10:17

And how important is faith? This is what the Bible says: "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love." Galatians 5:6

10.) Note This Web Site: www.biblegateway.com. This is an incredible on-line concordance. A concordance lets you find a Bible verse by any single word you can think of. For example: You can type in "love" and it will give you every singe verse containing the word "love." They have this for every well-known version of the Bible in many languages.

When should you confront? Most Believers, who are living the Christian life, are taught that they are to be meek and mild all the time like Ned Flanders on the Simpsons.

Let's say you are that way with your daughter. You find drugs under her bed. You go to her and say, "I found these drugs in your room. Your Dad and I would prefer you wouldn't do drugs, but the choice is yours. Whatever you decide, we will stand behind you."

Then fourteen years later, you wonder why your daughter is a prostitute on the streets, trying to make enough money to score a hit...or worse, she's dead of an overdose.

Drugs are not something to play around with. They kill just as much as a loaded gun.

You have to confront. I know that is not the nice, sweet, so-called Christian answer, but it is the truth.

Did you ever see Jesus coward down? No. When the Pharisees tried to trap Him by bringing the adulterous woman to Him, He told them, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone."

When the money-changers bought and sold in the temple, a holy anger came on Jesus, and He turned the tables over and chased them out with a whip.

Time after time, you see Jesus confronting people from the temple leaders to the Pharisees to His own disciples.

The difference between Jesus and humans is that He knew when to confront. People either confront too much or too little. As a result, things become chaotic in their lives, homes and families.

Let's say your friend's husband is cheating on her. Do you tell her? Shouldn’t you tell her what you know even if it might hurt her?

Even when it comes to the law, if you know something about a crime and don't come forward, you can be charged as an accessory to the crime.

If a crime has been committed, someone has been hurt financially, physically or mentally, because there are no victimless crimes.

God shows mercy to those who don't deserve it, such as the adulterer, the murder, the armed robber, all of the human race. And you should extend the same courtesy, yes, but there is a time to extend mercy and a time to confront. The question is which is which.

If a person is hurting himself by excessive drinking, doing drugs, being promiscuous, then you could confront. If a person is hurting others by being a bully, being offensive, lying, you should confront. If anyone will be hurt, I believe a confrontation is necessary.

Is someone going to be hurt if you don't tell your friend that her boyfriend is cheating on her? Yes, your friend if she finds out. You, if she finds out you knew and didn't tell her.

If a person has an erroneous teaching that he are preaching, I believe a confrontation is in order if the person has a large following. Not only will his followers be affected but their children as well because the followers will pass the teachings down to the next generation.

This is where people start denominations that don't believe in speaking in tongues, healing or the total prosperity of God.

What about minor offenses? Like not putting socks away? Or leaving them on the floor? In life you have to pick your battles, and if you are going to confront over every little thing, you are going to wear yourself and the people around you out.

Jesus didn't go around seeking people to confront. Instead He waited for them to come to Him and make the first move.

His confrontations always sought to further the knowledge of the Kingdom of God and to cause them to look within themselves.

No, He didn't go to the temple seeking to annoy or fire up the Pharisees. He didn't say one morning when He awoke, "I think I will confront the Pharisees today."

No, He waited for them to say something to Him.

Now there is a right and wrong way to confront. How should you confront others?

First of all, let’s look at Jesus when He confronted Peter on many occasions and the other disciples. Did He make a big display out of their mistakes? Did He say, “Hey, all you disciples, listen to the mistake Peter made?”

No, He rebuked Peter firmly but gently, then let it go. There was no mention of the mistake again.

I don't know about your mother, but whenever mine is mad at me, she lists all the things I have done wrong in her sight since I was born.

Jesus isn’t like that. He took all the punishment and judgment for every sin and mistake you can make on the cross. It is finished...and He remembers them no more.

And that is how you should be when you confront someone. You shouldn’t make a big deal of it and parade their mistakes in front of others.

You can confront them privately, if possible, not giving eavesdroppers the opportunity to gossip. You need to confront them gently but firmly, as Jesus did, then you should forgive the person, let it go and never bring it up again.

If it is a situation, such as drugs or drinking, you should confront the person with others, who love and respect him, and you should have several treatment options available to him.

If he is old enough (eighteen or over), you might say that his living in this house is contingent on him staying clean and sober. If he doesn’t agree, although you will still love him, you must do what is best for your family and put him out.

Love, although it covers a multitude of sins, requires Believers to confront and tell the truth when necessary. Love doesn’t just it back and watch another fall without trying to help them, without attempting to offer them a lifeline.

If they refuse your help, continue to pray for them because God can succeed where you fail.

If someone is hurting themselves or others, it is time to confront. If they are doing things that are contrary to the Word, confront, but don’t make a public display of it. Don’t make it a spectator event. Do it privately and gently, yet firmly. When all has been done, pray.

God sees your tears as well as the other person’s and He, of all people, knows how to fix the places in our lives that are crooked. He alone knows and understands everything. You must trust the other person to Him and know He will make everything turn around for good.

In the 19th century many towns in America employed a lamplighter. Besides being somewhat of a watchman his job was to light the oil wicks or candles in the street lights each evening and quench the flame early each morning. The lamplighter has dissolved into history; sadly it seems some of the light has gone with him.

Figuratively the greatest lamplighters in American history may have been Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, Joseph Pulitzer and President Grover Cleveland. Together they designed, promoted and on October 28th, 1886 inaugurated the Statue of Liberty. Her flaming torch has stood as the light of freedom, truth and justice in the minds people throughout the world for over one hundred years.

Americans usually welcome the light and those who are considered to be luminaries are readily recognized and applauded in most cases. Celebrating the light seen in others is not new or something only Americans do. Over twenty centuries ago Jesus spoke of those who ‘rejoiced’ in the light of John the Baptist (Jn 5:35) sadly we know how that all ended.

In Barack Obama’s political rallies audiences as expected have their gazes fixed on Obama’s face as they focus on his rhetoric. If someone could remain completely detached and turn to look at the faces of his audience they would discover a phenomena that is impossible to miss; they are awed. It is as if they have seen a light.

After discovering Obama’s association with Rev. Wright, bomber William Ayers and his position on gays and abortion his followers remain undaunted. They hang on his every word and the promise of change as if it were salvation itself. It strains the credulity of anyone with only entry level discernment. It raises and renews the wisdom of the once overused but now almost forgotten adage ‘there is none as blind as they who will not see.’

Add to Barack’s doubtful associations his aversion to saluting the flag, his opinion of people who “cling to religion and guns” and his wife’s lack of pride in the country and that raises and nearly answers yet another question. The question was also posed by Christ “…If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Mt 6:23)

Obama is certainly sincere and his convictions are firmly rooted in that sincerity but again “sincerity is no substitute for the truth.” It is possible to be sincere and very wrong at the same time. President Lincoln said that if he was right about something it wouldn’t matter in the end what all his critics said about it. Conversely he exclaimed that if he were wrong “angels swearing I was right would make no difference.”

If Americans listened a little less to her political pundits and a little more to her prophets she might see that changes are exactly what she is going to get. The inevitability of those changes is the only thing that cannot be questioned; the nature of the changes is still open.

Whenever people regard a light it usually means they are looking for direction in a dark situation. They follow the light and it brings them to their destiny whether it’s what they hoped for or not.

Too many have concluded that it is the deep divisions and polarizations that have brought unrest to the country. Some say with the Democratic wins in the house in 2006 and the toppling of Hastert in Illinois and Jenkins in Louisiana are proof that America wants out of a GOP run government and conservatism is dying along with the entire republican effort. Few are heeding the voices of those who are saying it is the moral, ethical and theological downturn that is fueling discontent, crime, confusion and darkness.

The globalization of our world is underway with Europe leading the way with some 64 satellite nations at her side to date. America has been following the same trends as our euro-counterparts and the leaders we choose now will determine whether we fall into the fold or stand as a bastion of freedom and what is right in the world. Such noble aspirations are more scoffed at these days than ever before and that is proof positive that we are at destiny’s door more than any other time in our history.

When people look at a presidential candidate in the same way they see a pop culture figure we are all in a mess. Following the “light that is darkness” will get us someplace but it will not be where we want to be. All too often the negative aspect of the messenger or the prophet is all that is seen or heard but for those with a “cup is half full” mentality the positive side is seen as well. God loves America and he does not want to see it fall or be judged. He said it like this; how do you read it? Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people. (Pr 14:34)

Is God Vengeful?

Our Creator may be all Love and compassion but make no mistake about it; God is also wrathful, jealous, hateful and judging; man, in his foolishness, can bring about the wrath of God. One consolation is, good or bad, God knows what we go through every day in our pursuit of life. He knows how weak we are and how easily our heads are turned. He puts up with our foolishness and shortcomings and when his tolerance is challenged, he can become angered and brutal.

Could he then bring wrath upon himself? No, but he could wipe all of creation if he so desired.

The power of choice

We note, that from the day when God gave man the power of self-choice, He let man alone in those choices. God has patiently waited on man's progression. It is true that during all this time He has carried on the automatic functions of the body and has even silently prompted man in what to do; but He has let man alone in all other ways. God may hold man as a perfect created being, but He also allows man to discover this fact for himself. And so it would seem that life is no more than a succession of discoveries . . . first in which is Thyself. People must discover themselves first before attempting to engage the world. Perhaps I should say, “rediscover” themselves because discovery lies in the hands of the seeker.

Created In his likeness

To suppose that God created an Intelligent being in His likeness and in His image, then placed him in bondage would be to dishonor God and negate the sacrifice of Christ. All of history's great prophets would have no meaning On the other hand, to suppose that God could make man in His image and likeness as a creative being, without the ability to discover himself, would be to suppose an impossibility because man was born of the breath of God. The consciousness of man, must be spontaneous and unquestionable yet reasonable and consistent. Man is a seeking being whose inner self taunts the senses but has the ability to sort out the good from the bad.

The seed of reality is all but hidden within the shell of mankind. But, unlike the irresponsible men of the past, modern man strives to make great discoveries within himself. This journey toward greatness is the essence of man’s drive and purpose. The journey may at times seem difficult and the burden too great to bear but man still harbors a subtle sense within, a drawing toward a spiritual presence, a divine Reality. Thus, the inherent nature of man is forever seeking to express itself in terms of freedom. We would do well to pay attention to this inner voice, this spirit connected center, because it tells us of a life wonderful in its scope, of a love beyond our wildest dreams, of a freedom which only the soul can crave.

As God establishes the laws of His own Being, we must find life force principles through the law.

But . . . wait a minute, didn't Darwin say everything evolves through natural selection?

Random Selection?

Could order come from random selection? The very thought of random suggest confusion. Why did some animals change while others didn't? Why aren’t they still evolving? Why aren’t all animals able to cross breed? I can't get a handle on the concept of random selection. There's to much inconsistency – no stability. Everything would be spinning off in different directions, continually evolving, continually changing.

This, then, is the teaching, The Principles of Life Lay In His Laws. As the love of God is perfect, so also are the laws of God perfect. The Laws of God were created especially and exclusively for the experience of people because people are the only living creatures who are able to decipher and enact God’s laws. People must understand and distinguish the different between love and law. Law is the probability while love is the unbiased pouring out of abundance. "Who hath ears to hear, let him hear."

Again I reiterate, Make no mistake about it; God is also wrathful, jealous, hateful and judging and man, in his foolishness, can bring about the wrath of God. Self orientated People

In our self made world, God silently, patiently awaits for us to discover His real meaning as He is always ready to respond to His exactness. It is true as we progress, our awareness of God becomes more heightened. For instance, think about the discovery of any of nature's forces; we know that they must have always existed; but, so far as our experience is concerned they exist in our reality only after they were brought to light, and we learned how to make use of them. Electricity was a reality in the universe when Moses led the Children of Israel from the land of Egypt, but neither Moses nor any of his followers knew anything about it, and so they did not receive any benefits from its use. This is true of any and all of the natural laws; they have always existed, and always will exist. It is only when we understand them that we can benefit from them. We can only benefit from the laws of God which we understand, the depth and width of which are insurmountable. We cannot gauge the full extent of God, to do so we would have to be God.

God awaits our discovery of the natural laws and our discovery of ourselves in relationship to Him for He knows the more we discover, the more we realize our reliance on Him. Everything hinges on our perception of God and our ability to embrace that perception as true.

Why is showing love toward others so important for Christians?

If we want to follow Jesus’ example, then we must show love for each other.

However most Christians believe that we have to conjure up love for others on our own.

No, God doesn’t require us to love others in own strength. We are to show the love of Christ to others. The love of Christ. Not our own love.

The writer of Romans 5:5 tells us that the love of Christ has been shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost. We have the love of Christ already in us. We just have to tap into it.

How do we do that? By believing that God loves us.

What does believing that God loves us have to do with loving other people?

The writer of Matthew 19:19 writes, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

Most of us don’t love ourselves. Therefore we treat ourselves badly, and in turn, we treat others that way as well .

The solution is to love ourselves. The only effective way to do that is to believe that God loves us.

He loved us so much that while we were yet sinners, He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus, to die for us. While He looked at us covered in lies, adultery, theft, covetousness, greed and selfishness, Jesus endured being beaten, bruised and nailed on the Cross to pay the price for our sin.

The wages of sin are death (Romans 6:23), and the penalty is eternal separation from God..

God loved us so much that He couldn’t stand for us be separated from Him for eternity. That’s how much He loved and still loves us. He gave us the option to be with Him forever or to be separated from Him. The choice is now ours.

God loves us so much that He has tattoos of us on His palms. He bottles our tears. His thoughts toward us outnumber the grains of sand and are to prosper us and not to harm us.

We are the apple of God’s eye. He is a doting Daddy, who loves to shower His kids with blessings. Not because we deserve them but because He loves us and are His children.

Most of us are walking in love in our own strength We try to conjure up enough love in our hearts towards others. When we do this, though, we will always fail. However if we tap into God’s strength within us, we can love even the unlovable.

What is God’s love like? It is unconditional. No matter what we say or do, God still loves us. He doesn’t stop loving us because we hate someone or even commit murder. He always loved us and always will love us.

What is our love like? Our love has conditions. When our husband comes home and admits to an affair, in our own strength, we find it hard to look at him, nevertheless forgive him.

On the contrary, God’s love is always forgiving, merciful and gracious.

When we do wrong, what kind of love do we want be met with? Unconditional love? Or conditional? We want to be met with unconditional love.

Many of us don’t believe that God loves us. When we don’t, we don’t believe God forgives us. We berate ourselves and beat ourselves up.

When we believe God loves us without conditions, we relax. We don’t try to earn God’s love. We don’t worry about God being angry at us. There is nothing we can do to make God stop loving us.

Obedience comes easier when we believe God loves us. When we know He loves us, we understand that God wants what is best for us, and are able to trust Him more and more in every area of our lives.

How do we show love to others?

For some people, like our neighbors, the people we come in contact with at the mall, work and the store, we may be the only glimpse of Jesus they will ever see. That is why we need to show the love of God to everyone we meet.

I took an assertive training class in college. The teacher instructed us to say something positive about each student.

Everyone told one woman how she shined with love. She revealed her secret. Every morning she prayed that God’s love would flow through her to every person she met.

That should be our daily prayer as well. I believe we would be amazed at the results if we prayed it before we left our homes in the morning.

How do we show love toward others? By remembering them.

Send a card for Christmas, New Years, their birthday, Friendship Day or for no reason in particular.

We can call someone we haven’t heard from in awhile or write a note to someone we appreciate. Pick up groceries for an elderly neighbor or pay her a visit.

If we know someone is going through a particularly bad time, we can send him a care package of books, verses, food, practical items as well as special things that he, in particular, would enjoy.

We should to be careful to show the love of God wherever we go. We don’t know who is in need of a kind word or deed or when God wants to minister to them through us.

God loves us, and we are to spread His love wherever we go. On our own, in our own strength, we cannot change anyone’s lives. With God’s love, though, we can make a difference one person at a time.

Being Christian e-book publishers as well as the fact that we just celebrated the 'National Day of Prayer', we tend to get a lot of e-mail asking questions regarding prayer and the receiving of God's 'good things'. Unfortunately many people think that there must be some 'special methods' or 'tools' or even special words needed to get God's blessings! I'm saying it again here, that it just isn't so. No special words, phrases, methods or tools are needed to receive God’s blessings.

One needs to understand that when they are feeling a 'bit strange' or a 'bit philosophical' even ‘serendipitous’ that it is okay and most times those feeling are to assist us in recognizing them as the 'Call To Prayer'. All one has to do is to simply answer 'The Call'. God wants us to receive all the best ‘things’, all those daily needs as well as our wants and desires. So then why hasn't anyone come forward and said, 'wow, all I did was such and such and I started getting so and so'? Why, because it doesn't work that way. It only works that way in scams and multi-level-marketing plans! The actions one does are needed; however the more important aspect is in the change of a human heart. Change your heart to the fact that you are a child of God and that He truly wants you to have all the best of the best. He only wants you to do one simple thing, talk to Him! Oh yes, most people call this 'talking', simply praying.

The most organized way I know of how to bring the power of prayer and a deeper relationship with God is through the use of a daily prayer journal. Now, don't go off and say that I said you need some special tool to get God's blessings. No, the use of a journal is for our benefit and not the ‘magic ingredient’. Will God answer someone’s prayers without the use of a prayer journal? Of course, it is just an easy way to keep organized, but not a necessity. Your daily prayer journal is yours and yours alone, it can be fancy or it can be very plain. Your journal is for your eyes only, so make it 'work' for you and ‘your ways’. Most of the ladies I talk with find it very easy to switch over from doing some sort of a daily diary to a working prayer journal. Many guys, however, frown at the first mention of it until they too realize that they actually do some sort of daily diary keeping such as in their Day timer, Palm pilot, Blackberry, or even their blog. We all have some sort of daily diary keeping to some extent or another. All we need to do is switch from doing a daily 'to-do' list to a personal prayer journal. Once we have some sort of daily prayer journal we need to outline how we should use it.

The next important action you will need to do is to make a promise to yourself that you will set aside a small amount of time each day to have personal devotions with Bible reading and prayers. Whenever you feel moved or you are feeling ‘serendipitous' about a certain thought or over the meaning of a Bible passage write it and some of your other thoughts down and then, let it be for the day. Once every week or two go back and re-read your writings and make new notes of how those questions, thoughts, events and/or prayers worked out. You will be amazed that you can now see 'The Hand of God' moving in your life. That is why it is so important for you to write down everything you are feeling and/or thinking about the day, your work, the family or the Bible passage that you just turned to by accident and so on.

I understand just how simple it sounds however; you will experience it by taking the time to work with your journal daily. This is the beginning of a whole new life for you. By reading the ‘word’ of God (the Bible) you will begin to have a daily ‘walk’ with Him and wonderful results or outcomes just simply begin to happen. If you don't have a Bible look me up at one of the addresses below and I will see to it that you get an electronic version sent to you. Either way spend time with 'The Words of God', and you will begin to understand and to feel closer to God. The amount of reading you should do is up to you as to how much time should you spend is all based on how fast you read and so on. Again, it's all up to you and your ways.

After reading your Bible passages, 'meditate' which means nothing more than to 'seriously think' about what you read and how it applies to you, or if it applies to you at all. Next it is very important that you truly understand your lowliness and the ways you have hurt God. By either doing or not doing, by saying or by not saying what you should have! It is really important to be truly contrite or remorseful for your wrongs as well as have a serious and sincere wanting to correct these in the future, with God's help of course.

Now is the time you have been waiting for; the time for expressing all the wants and wishes you need and/or want. Unfortunately, until one really understands the whole devotional process I am highlighting here, they won't understand that this is not to be the biggest and/or longest part of their devotions. If one truly spends the time and understands just how undeserving we are, any amount of God’s blessings is more than any of us deserve. It doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t ask for this or that, it is only meant to be understood in light of our contrition. Ask and it will be given unto you in good time. However, don't allow this to become a wish list of things you just must have in order to keep up pace with Mary Lou and her husband! Many deeply religious people have said that once they truly understood personal devotion and true contrition they stopped asking for anything for themselves and spend the time trying to receive 'things' for others who really needed 'things'. I mention this to not marginalize anyone but only to convey the true devotional environment and contrition we need to possess. Once we have read Bible passages, understood our wrongs and developed the proper contrition, and even relayed our desires, it is time for contemplation. One should try to spend at least five or ten minutes not reading, not talking, not wishing, not writing not anything just contemplate silently that God is our Heavenly Father who loves us and wants only the best of ‘things’ for us. Then as we wait in the silence, we want to see if we can hear God speaking to our hearts. After, you have spent enough time for the various stages the next item is to write in your journal all the things you prayed about, all the things you read about as well as all the 'feelings' or 'understandings' you came to with God while in contemplation. That's it! You are now done with your daily personal devotion! You will find that the more you have of these daily devotions the more time you will want to spend doing so.

I will like to think that I can suggest this action and that you would be honest to yourself and in turn you will then promise yourself, to try and do personal daily devotions of thirty minutes or so for just one week! If you do, you will find it the most rewarding time of the day! You will be re-charged and re-inspired and will beam with inner-light. Seriously! Others will ask you if you have been losing weight or working out in the gym. Just smile and say thanks. Now if you wish to share with them that is okay too. You need be aware of this one point, that if you tell another what you have been doing, be prepared for them to come to you and ask you to pray for them a lot of times. Once you have really begun to be comfortable and have found that you now ‘need’ this special time each and every day, you will then be ready to begin praying for others regularly. After a short time it will seem more important to you to pray for others and less for yourself. It is in this understanding that the truly grand benefits begin to manifest themselves for all parties!

When someone asks you to pray for them be sure to write all the facts and details down. Then don't lose the note and don't forget to pray for them once you are in your personal devotional time. There are a lot of fancy prayer journals with professional Christian stationery on the market. I would suggest that for the first trial week, you should go cheap! Use notebook paper and an old dusty three ring binder or something to that effect. Once you begin to feel more comfortable and the need for daily devotions becomes stronger and something you plan to do daily, then spend some money and buy the real fancy version if you wish.

Starting daily devotions with your prayer journal will help keep you focused and mindful of the 'things' you wanted to bring to God in prayer. Working your journal, going back and forth and plotting your progress will help strengthen and build up your faith. As you read the sacred scriptures you not only develop a more intimate daily relationship but will also begin to delve deeper into the various mysteries of God and His word. Being organized with a personal prayer journal will help you to stay focused during prayers. Some people end up sharing, as a legacy, their prayer journals with some younger family members. I don't suggest doing so because you are working on you, for you, and that really isn't anyone's business. You do as you wish; however, you will find that you won't be as open and honest as you would be if nobody but you were reading your journal. In any case, start today because there isn't a much better time to begin daily devotions and working with your prayer journal, than right now! God bless!

Expelled the Movie - Ben Stein Exposes Flat World Academics

No movie review in history as far as I know starts with instructions about how to watch the film. Expelled is a documentary and contains hundreds of interviews and deep conversations with some of the most highly regarded minds of the time. It has a rhythm and a depth that requires full attention and you may want to forgo the popcorn, soda and other distractions.

You will also discover something radically different about this film from the audience reaction. It has been reported that people applaud sometimes throughout the film and in some theatres it ends with audiences rising to give it a standing ovation.

I found myself applauding along with other theatre patrons when I saw the film. It was proof solid for me that while Americans are being asked to get the nonsense of religion out of their heads the idea of an omnipotent creator God is still firmly planted in their hearts.

Frivolous lawsuits are being thrown at the producers of the film from animation companies and John Lennon widow Yoko Ono. Neither suit seems to have any foundation but the flak from every academic quarter is ample proof that a nerve has been touched. Is the film fair, is it reasonable, and is it intelligent? Not only is the answer yes, yes and yes but the film is yet something much more, something rarely found in a documentary. It is emotionally charged.

Ben Stein is marvelous in the film. Known more as a comedian he doesn’t poke fun at anyone and rarely resorts to humor throughout the documentary. It is clear from the outset that he is not arguing or contending with others views but only imploring them to seriously ponder their own unquestioned assertions. He does this with a straight face and the fewest words possible. The result is obvious; these questions are no joke.

Near the end Stein is found quietly standing alone with his own thoughts in the middle of a holocaust museum. His thoughts are narrated in the background and they are perhaps the most profound moments of the film. Stein has conducted himself discreetly and some might say masterfully throughout the documentary so at the films conclusion nothing is lost.

The heart of the movie is easy to see. Academics have for a generation now fed us the idea that the big bang theory and the subsequent lightning hitting the primordial ooze is the only way to go when it comes to the question of how life began.

The rapid rise in intelligence in this generation has caused completely unforeseen phenomena that academicians are not prepared for. It is not just faith in God that makes the question bubble to the surface but our own enlarged understanding of the complexities and vast intricacies of our own universe. The admonition to question all authority that academics so blithely espoused to young minds a generation ago has returned to bite them on the butt. It is the intelligent that are questioning the not so intelligent refusal of the intelligencia to give some credence to intelligent design; not doing so is just dumb.

This generation understands that when science leaves the area of repeatable and observable phenomena and relies on speculation and ‘prior philosophic postulation’ to explain the origins of life they have entered the realm of faith. Physical evidence for evolution remains spurious, sparse and suspect at best so speculation is all that is left to explain what took place four hundred million years ago. The evolution crowd has been thumping “The Origins of Species” with evangelistic fervor that makes the best Bible preachers look tame by comparison. This is what Expelled is about.

The implacability of the evolutionists is compared to the Berlin wall throughout the film. Nazism and communism are also alluded to for the most obvious reasons. A party line must be held and enforced for any kind of fascism to have a reasonable chance to survive. The cost of fascism has always been the loss of freedom. Expelled centers in on this by likening the refusal to include the possibility of intelligent design to incarcerating intelligence not furthering it.

Expelled hones in on the loss of academic freedom, jobs, tenure and respect for many of those interviewed in the film but it also provokes the larger question of the number of young minds lost to this generation because of what is fast becoming rigid Darwinian dogma. Move over inquisitors here come the evolutionists!

One of the highlights of Expelled is the interview with famed atheist Richard Dawkins. It may be the only time you will ever see Dawkins visibly perturbed and almost at a loss for words. Ben Stein managed to pull what might even be considered an admission from Dawkins that some intelligent designer may have created everything but that he, she or it would have to have evolved first. The double talk aside it is a moment well worth the ticket price alone.

Most movies are rated on a scale of one to five or in some cases a scale of one to ten. I will not rate this movie at all. What I will do is rate the ‘must see’ element of the documentary. Whether you are an evolutionist or a believer of “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen 1:1) if you consider yourself even nominally intelligent the must see factor for Expelled on a scale of one to ten is twenty.

Patriotism is dying a tantalizing death in the hands of time. It is not only where people are having to compromise with the basic requirements of living. In countries where people are provided with a comfortable standard of living, citizens rip off the government, its policies and the constitution to shreds at the first opportunity. Pseudo non-conformists yell the country down to anyone who has ears to listen. They do not know how to redress; they only know how to rant.

The patriotic celebrations which have lingered on are more a festive occasion than a patriotic one. Cinco de Mayo, Fourth of July, and Memorial Day are events celebrated by the people to recollect the days of our ancestors bravery. However, the people who are celebrating would no lift a finger to replicate the ideals they are glorifying. And that is a sad fact.

Cinco de Mayo is a festival of the Mexicans. It means '5th of May' in English. The Mexican army won a great victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla on 5th May, 1862.It is not their Independence Day but they celebrate this day with gusto because it is a victory their ancestors won over the much-fancied and superior French forces. Though the French took over Mexico a year later, it did not topple 5th May from the zenith of Mexican glory.

You need not be a Mexican to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Americans have adopted and adapted many events that does not owe their origins to American soil. Cinco de Mayo is one of them. The Mexicans may associate their sense of patriotism with the day but if you are not a Mexican, you can treat the day as just an occasion of celebration and merrymaking. Cinco de Mayo celebrations are all about getting yourself bathed in the colors of the Mexican flag – red, green and white. You can wear a sombrero, the traditional Mexican hat, and be out on the streets. You can also down some tequila shots to spice things up.

Occasions for merry-making cannot keep pace with the need of the modern man to celebrate. Everyone wants to take a day off and do something that does not translate into the language of profit or bottom lines. In a bid to gather as many reasons to celebrate as possible, people have blurred the lines of culture and ethnicity. They have no qualms in celebrating an occasion has not come down to them through the pages of history or folk lore. Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated in the United States. There is no reason to have any hang-ups about celebrating a patriotic occasion of another country as long as you care as much for your own. Someone rightly said, 'A citizen of America will cross the ocean to fight for democracy, but won't cross the street to vote in a national election!"

Not only did He die for our sins, but He gave us the whole salvation package--healing, prosperity, redemption and so much more.

When we accept what Jesus did , then we become adopted children of the Most High God (Romans 8:15).

Joseph kept having dreams, where his brothers bowed down to him. Joseph could have kept it to himself, but no, he told his brothers, almost as if to flaunt it in front of their faces. Fed up, his brothers decided that the dreamer had to go.

They intended to kill him, but they change their minds when a caravan of Ishmaelites came by. Instead they exchanged him for money.

Joseph soon rose to the position of second-in-charge after being bought by Potipher, the captain of Pharaoh’s army.

Then when he refused to sleep with Potipher’s wife, she accused him of sexually assaulting her.

Potipher believed his wife and threw Joseph in prison, where Joseph rose to second-in-charge of the prison under the warden.

While in prison, he interpreted the dreams of two men--Pharaoh’s butler and baker

The butler performed his duties as he did before after the warden released him. He forgot about Joseph.

The Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, experienced disturbing dreams that no one could interpret. Suddenly, the butler remembered Joseph.

Once Joseph interpreted the Pharaoh’s dreams, Pharaoh pardoned Joseph and promoted Joseph to the second highest position in Egypt. He reported only to Pharaoh himself.

Seven years of prosperity came and went. In that time, Joseph set aside food because he knew from Pharaoh’s dreams that after the good years would be seven lean years.

When everyone else in the neighboring lands had no food, Egypt had plenty. So much that people came from far away places to buy food from Joseph, including the brothers that sold him into slavery.

Now was that God’s plan for Joseph all along? To be sold into slavery? No. To be accused of rape? No. However, God used those things, which the devil mean for Joseph’s destruction, and turned them around for Joseph’s good and the good of his family.

In the book of Ruth, Ruth, a Moabitess, married into a Hebrew family, but her husband, along with her father-in-law and brother-in-law, died. Naomi, her mother-in-law, decided to return to her homeland.

The two daughters-in-law tagged along until Naomi insisted they return to their own lands. Ruth refused.

Ruth and Naomi settled in Naomi’s land, but they were low on funds and food. Ruth took Naomi’s advice and went behind the harvest collectors and picked up the grain they missed.

The collectors’ boss noticed her and told his crew to purposely leave food for her to pick up. This man, Boaz, turned out to be related to her mother-in-law’s family. He could step in and buy their land and marry Ruth.

Only another man, a closer relation, stood between Ruth, Boaz and happily ever after. The other man wanted the land but not Ruth.

Upon gaining permission from the other man, Boaz married Ruth himself. He cared for her, Naomi and their land.

Ruth became pregnant with their son, Obed, the father of Jesse, the father of King David, whose lineage produced Jesus.

Now did God want Naomi and Ruth to lose their husbands? No. Did He want them to suffer? No. However God use their circumstances to bless them and to turn their situation around.

God can do the same for us. He doesn’t cause the bad things to happen in our lives. God, just like He did in the lives of Ruth and Joseph, though, can turn our situations around for the good of everyone concerned.

We must trust that God loves us and that He doesn’t want to harm us but prosper us.

Many of the problems in our lives are caused by our choices and those of others. Others are caused because we have no idea what God wants us to have.

To really know what God promises us, we need to read our Bible. After we read what God promises, we must believe that God loves us.

Believing God loves us is the key. If we don’t believe God loves us, we won’t believe that we are blessed, healed or prosperous already through the shed blood of Jesus.

We will never be truly obedient to God if we don’t. Obedience and blessings are the results of believing God loves us. Then everything will work out for our good.

Not because we earned it but because we believed God loves us no matter what we say or do. Then everything will work out for our good.

A dubious scientist has conducted an in-depth study of alternative therapies and deduced – to her surprise – that they are not merely mumbo jumbo.

Kathy Sykes said that she had previously been cautious about using alternative therapies. She explains, “I would rather put my faith in conventional medicine, which has been put through numerous trials and research, and proven to work through rigorous experiments.” However, after spending months studying reflexology, meditation and hypnotherapy for a BBC documentary, she has had a change of heart.

In the last few years, alternative therapies have become increasingly popular in Britain, although many scientists still refuse to acknowledge their health benefits. However, the findings of Sykes’ investigation into alternative therapy might just change their mind.

To discover more about meditation, Sykes travelled to the Himalayas to meet a Buddhist monk called Matthieu Ricard. Known as the ‘happiest man in the world’, Ricard has been meditating for 30 years and believes it can change the way you experience every moment of your life, as well as reduce anxiety and increase compassion. After meditating with Ricard, Sykes said that she “definitely felt calmer and more at ease,” which are thoughts that comply with the findings of a number of studies. Professor Richard Davidson carried out one of these studies at the Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He noticed a real change in brain activity when people meditated, which showed people to be happier and less anxious.

Sykes made similar discoveries when she investigated hypnotherapy, she said: “It's a therapy I've long considered pretty wacky, but I did unearth some rather compelling work by Professor Irving Kirsch from Hull University.” Kirsch used an MRI scanner to monitor changes to the brain when people under hypnosis were told to imagine a black and white picture in colour. He also monitored them doing the same thing while they were not hypnotised. By doing this, he discovered that, when hypnotised, the subjects managed to activate the parts of their brain needed to see colour. When the subjects were in a normal state, these parts of the brain were not activated.

However, Sykes wasn’t impressed with all the natural therapies she looked into; she remains dubious about reflexology. Reflexology is thought to heal a range of ailments by simply applying pressure to different areas of the feet. Professor Leslie Walker from Hull University has looked into reflexology and discovered that it can help breast cancer patients to relax. However, there was no significant difference between the results he obtained for reflexology and head massage. In addition to this, an anatomist told her that the foot map used by reflexology practitioners was dubious.

Reflexology aside, Sykes was clearly impressed by the health benefits offered by meditation and hypnotherapy. She concludes: “There is no doubt that certain studies in this field are yielding results which made me — and possibly even the most sceptical of individuals — take stock when it comes to the value of alternative therapies.”

Shine offers users a wide range of content that’s divided into nine different categories, which include Fashion and Beauty and Parenting. Some of the content will be syndicated from a number of popular lifestyle publishers such as Conde Nast and the Hearst Corporation, which publishes Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping and Redbook.

However, Yahoo has also hired an editorial team who will publish original stories daily, as well as choose the user blog posts that will feature prominently on the site. Yahoo's decision to launch Shine reflects their new media strategy to create a network of consolidated themed sites that will appeal to mass audiences. The company first began to implement this strategy in May 2006 with the launch of Yahoo Tech and they built on it later that year with Yahoo Food. According to research from Hitwise, these ventures have been a resounding success; Yahoo Tech now ranks in the top five US technology media sites and Yahoo Food is in the top 10 food lifestyle sites. However, it is thought that Shine will eventually replace Yahoo Food.

Meditation Trains Brain to be Kinder

According to a new study, Scientists have managed to prove what many Indian people have known for centuries; they have demonstrated that meditation is good for the brain.

During the study, which was published in the specialist journal PLOS One, researchers discovered that meditative training could produce specific measurable changes in the parts of the brain that are linked to empathy and compassion.

In the research into compassion meditation practices, researchers studied 16 Tibetan monks who had each spent many hours cultivating their meditation techniques. The monks underwent a number of functional magnetic resonance imaging brain scans during their meditation sessions, which highlighted any changes to the brain.

The meditating monks were pitted against 16 volunteers who had no previous meditation experience. These volunteers were taught basic meditation techniques just a fortnight before their brains were scanned.

The brain scans showed a number of differences between the brains of the monks and those of the volunteers. Most notable were the changes in the monks’ brains, particularly in the circuits used to detect emotions and feelings.

The inexperienced volunteers were taught only the most basic elements of compassion meditation; they were initially asked to concentrate on their loved ones and send them wishes of wellbeing and freedom from suffering. After this, they were then told to generate a similar feeling towards people in general, not just specific individuals.

As part of the research, the 32 monks and volunteers were placed in a brain scanner, before being asked to begin compassion meditation or to refrain from the meditation altogether. While they were in each of these states, the subjects were exposed to either negative or positive human vocal sounds, which were specifically designed to evoke neutral vocalisations or empathic responses. The sounds used in the study included a laughing baby, a distressed woman and some background restaurant noise.

During the test, the scans indicated that there was significant activity in the insula – the part of the brain that helps the body represent emotion - when the monks were meditating and made to listen to emotional vocal sounds. The scans also showed a clear link between the strength of the activity and the intensity of the meditation.

However, journalist and yoga teacher Ruth Fowler is a little sceptical of the study. She said: “Meditation can change your life, but the kind of meditation the scientists are studying is a practise undertaken every single day for years, by, for example, Tibetan Buddhist monks, or hardcore yogis who are terrifyingly committed to mental and physical control. It's hard and it's tiresome.”

She also seems doubtful over whether this study or any other research that extols the benefits of meditation will actually encourage people to take up the practice. She said: “Meditation may go on to be proven scientifically as a wonder cure for depression, but whether you'll get anyone to sit down in silence for an hour a day with their eyes closed is another matter.”

Demi decided to have the leech therapy when she was in Austria, she explains: “I was in Austria doing a cleanse and part of the treatment was leech therapy.” In order to prepare for the treatment, she shaved and took a bath in turpentine.

Although the detoxifying treatment may sound a little odd, Demi was quick to assert that she wasn’t being covered in just any old leeches. She said: “These aren’t just swamp leeches though - we are talking about highly trained medical leeches. These are not some low level scavengers - we’re talking high level blood suckers.”

The treatment works by applying leeches to the body and allowing them to bite the skin in order to release a detox enzyme. As Demi explains: “It detoxifies your blood - I’m feeling very detoxified right now. I did it in some woman’s house lying on her bed. We did a little sampler first, which is in the belly button.”

Demi was happy to talk to David Lettermen at length about her treatment. She described the moment at which the leech is applied to the skin, as well as watching the creatures suck her blood. She said “It crawls in and you feel it bite down on you and you want to go, 'You b*****d.’ Then you relax and work on your Lamaze breathing just to kind of relax. You watch it swell up on your blood, watching it get fatter and fatter - then when it’s super drunk on your blood it just kind of rolls over like it is stumbling out of the bar.”

Demi was so happy with her first leech treatment that she is eager to give it another go. She said: “I’m going back – I only got four leeches and I felt a bit cheated.”

Although Demi’s treatment sounds unusual, medicinal leeches have been used for clinical purposes for thousands of years. Use of leeches for this purpose was thought to have originated in Egypt around 2,500 years ago.

Leeches are popular creatures for clinical use, because they secrete an anticoagulant that often makes bites bleed more than normal after the leech is removed from the skin. The anticoagulant they secrete fights blood clots and restores blood flow, making them ideal for use in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Many people were left wondering whether karma had worked its magic yesterday after a pair of tarot card reading con artists were jailed in Chicago for defrauding their clients.

Eric Tan, 34, and Tracy Tan, 37, were charged with planning to defraud their customers by persuading them that they were cursed. Once their customers believed that they were cursed, the crooked con artists convinced them that the only solution was expensive counselling sessions at a potential cost of thousands of dollars. As a police press release explains, “Tracy Tan would convince the customers that they had a curse on them, and that she was the only one who could fix their problems. During this 'counselling,' she would charge her victims thousands of dollars for her services and products, which provided them with a false sense of hope.”

The Tans had their business, Psychic Tarot Card Reading, searched by police after complaints from unhappy clients. During the search on the unlisted business, which was located near Naperville, police seized a substantial amount of cash and jewellery.

Following the findings, arrests were made and as a result, Tracy Tan was charged with eight felony counts, which include theft, forgery and possession of fraudulent identification. Meanwhile, Eric Tan was just charged with possession of fraudulent identification. The pair were held by the county court on a bail of $750,000 each, and they are both scheduled to appear back in court next month.

Russell attributes their strong relationship to their similar birth charts, he said: “We have a lot of Jupiter in the marital segment of our charts. We have a laugh. And he's lovely, Doug. He's a very kind person.”

Throughout his acting career, Russell pursued his interest in astrology and was awarded an astrology column in the Daily Mail. A chance encounter with the Queen Mother at the Ideal Home Show in 1978 boosted his career further still. Hospital Apologises for Ghost Nurse

A Welsh hospital has issued an apology to a Cancer patient after a nurse claiming to be a medium told her that she had seen a ghost on the ward.

Gillian Davies, 48, complained about this incident, along with the general level of care she received at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Denbighshire, near Rhyl.

The ghost incident occurred while Mrs Davies was convalescing from a partial mastectomy and still under the influence of anaesthetic. As a result, she thought that the ghost was a sign that she was going to die. She said: “I know it sounds silly now but I thought the ghost had come to get me. I was very vulnerable at the time. It would be funny if it was not so serious. But at the time I didn’t know if I was going to live or die.”

Mrs Davies said that the nurse came running down the hospital corridor after spotting the ‘ghost’. She said: “She said she had seen a spirit but not to worry, that she was a medium. The nurse told us that she was psychic, and that it was all right, she only saw friendly spirits.”

After Mrs Davies tried to complain about the incident, she was merely told to ignore the offending nurse, as “that was what she was like”. However, after making a formal complaint against Conwy and Denbighshire NHS trust, an independent review found the incident to be “unprofessional.” The review deduced, “The issue here is in a nurse being extremely unprofessional and I would suggest this type of behaviour would cause more than upset to patients.” It also found that the hospital had “completely skirted over” the “rather strange issue” of the psychic nurse, as well as providing a general level of care that was not acceptable.

Mrs Davies also complained that despite the sensitive nature of her surgery, she was placed on a mixed ward at the hospital. In addition to this, she also alleged that her case notes were left on the bed, allowing her to view the results of her biopsy without any support. Ms Davies made further allegations about her standard of care at the hospital, claiming that she was made to shower and dress herself alone and that the ward was unclean.

The review concluded that there “is very little doubt that the nursing care experienced by Mrs Davies fell well below an acceptable standard.” This conclusion prompted Jill Galvani, director of nursing, to make a full apology to Mrs Davies. She said: "We apologise to Mrs Davies that the standards of care fell below her expectations during her stay in Glan Clwyd Hospital. We can confirm that a complaint made by Mrs Davies was referred for an independent review. This was referred back to the trust with a number of recommendations.”

Speaking of the independent review’s findings, Mrs Davies said: “I am not after compensation or anything like that. I just want something done so that other women do not have to go through what I experienced. The episode with the psychic nurse was creepy and scary but hospital bosses only spoke to the nurse – they didn’t discipline her.”

She said: “The hypnotist thing I don’t know if it’s working.”

Katona is thought to have started smoking again after the treatment, but has cut down significantly. She said: “I'm only on 3 or 4 cigarettes a day and I'm desperately trying to quit.”

It seems that smoking isn’t the pregnant star’s only vice; in another episode of the show, Katona was seen with a glass full of alcohol on a number of other occasions. In fact, she could clearly be seen holding a full glass of champagne, as well as appearing to enjoy a large glass of rosé wine during a meal out with husband Mark Croft.

She has previously dismissed criticism of her decision to drink during her pregnancy. She said: “I'm sorry but what woman who is pregnant has not had a glass of wine? Get over it. A lot of women have more than that. I'm sick of people judging me.” However, as Katona has been plagued by health problems throughout her pregnancy, many critics have pondered why the star is putting her unborn child at even more risk.

Katona had a serious miscarriage scare during the early stages of her pregnancy, but the baby somehow survived. Earlier this month, the star caused filming on her reality MTV show to be suspended when she was forced to enter The Priory for treatment to ease her depression. Just last week, Katona was also subject to a major health scare; she was admitted to Macclesfield Genera Hospital after a midwife became concerned that she had developed pre-eclampsia, a potentially fatal condition that strikes during pregnancy and causes harm to both the mother and unborn baby. However, it was later discovered that her swelling was due to water retention and the star was released.

Still, with so many health scares, why is the star risking more? It looks like another trip to the hypnotherapist is in order…

Researchers from Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester have found that hypnotherapy can be used to effectively treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in 70 per cent of cases.

Irritable bowel syndrome is a functional bowel disorder, which causes abdominal pain, and in some cases, fever, diarrhoea, bloating, constipation and nausea. It is a common ailment, which is thought to affect one in three people at some point in their lives.

The causes of irritable bowel syndrome are unknown, particularly as IBS sufferers show no physical abnormalities in the bowel. Because of this, many specialists believe that stress is a major factor in causing this painful bowel disorder.

Currently, a hypnotherapist at the Manchester hospital is treating more than 60 irritable bowel syndrome sufferers every week. Patients are coming from locations throughout the country to experience this cutting-edge course of 12 hypnotherapy treatments, which means the hospital now has an 18-month waiting list.

Pamela Cruickshanks, who is one of Wythenshawe Hospital’s three clinical hypnotherapists, explains how the treatment works. She said: “We provide patients with 12 sessions of 'gut-directed hypnotherapy', which teach patients to take control over their bowel. Due to the success of this treatment, patients are coming from all over the country to access our services, and hypnosis is now considered to be the treatment of choice for moderate to severe IBS.”

One irritable bowel syndrome sufferer from Manchester, Claire Brunton, suffered from painful cramps and other symptoms of the bowel disorder so badly that she stopped wanting to eat, which left her on the verge of anorexia. She also started to suffer from terrifying panic attacks because she was worrying so much about getting ill.

However, as a result of Wythenshawe hospital’s revolutionary hypnotherapy programme, she has learnt some great techniques to stop her panic attacks, control her symptoms and help to cope with the pain. While her illness had once held her back in life, the hypnotherapy treatments have helped her to cope with the stress of her final university exams, as well as giving her enough confidence to enter the world of work and begin a new job as a recruitment consultant.

Claire was quick to praise Wythenshawe Hospital’s hypnotherapy treatment for IBS, she said: “Hypnotherapy is a very strange thing to try to describe, your therapist helps you to relax slowly but you are awake and conscious throughout - it feels like the last few moments before you go to sleep when you still know what is happening around you.”

Before embarking on this treatment, Claire had tried a number of other IBS therapies to no avail. She explained: “IBS was taking over my life. I had started to worry I would not be able to hold down a job and I didn't want to eat because I felt like everything I ate made me sick, so I'd tried all kinds of herbal remedies and acupuncture before the hypnotherapy.”

As well as having hypnotherapy, Claire was also given a number of blood tests at the hospital that showed she was allergic to dairy and wheat products. She now avoids these foods and finds that her symptoms have eased a great deal.

Acupuncture Can Aid Fertility Treatment

It’s estimated that around one in six UK couples have problems conceiving, so IVF fertility treatment is very popular. Recent research suggests that this treatment could be made more effective by combining it with acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine, which works by inserting thin needles into specific points of the body to stop pain and control symptoms of illness.

Couples in China have used acupuncture for centuries to promote female fertility, and scientists have been studying its impact on IVF for a number of years. While the results of these studies have generally been mixed, the latest research indicates that acupuncture definitely helps couples to conceive via fertility treatment.

Undergoing IVF treatment is an expensive and stressful process, which has an average success rate of just 15%. Couples without children may be eligible for up to three cycles of IVF on the NHS, but there is often a long waiting list. The cost for one private cycle of IVF is a whopping £2,500, which many people find prohibitive.

The Dutch and US research, which looked at more than 1,300 women and was published in the British Medical Journal, found that every 10 cycles of IVF treatment with acupuncture would result in one extra pregnancy. The overall results indicated that women who had acupuncture were 65% more likely to undergo successful IVF treatment compared with those who underwent dummy versions of the acupuncture treatment, or those who had no extra treatment at all.

Rowan Pelling of the Guardian spoke of her positive own experience of acupuncture and fertility. She said: “After the first treatment, when I felt currents of energy move across my body, something very strange happened. I not only felt as if a portcullis somewhere inside had lifted, but I ovulated for a second time that month, just as my regular period was due, and I fell pregnant with my first son as a result.”

Acupuncture is thought to aid fertility and boost fertility treatments merely because it relieves stress. This may sound simplistic, but a fertility expert recently said that fertility problems could stem from busy couples that just don't have sex enough or stressed out women whose bodies are so frazzled that they’ve started to display menopausal symptoms. However, infertility can also stem from bigger problems such as polycystic ovary syndrome (POS), endometriosis, miscarriages and poor sperm count.

However, Professor Edzard Ernst, a leading alternative medicine expert from the Peninsula Medical School in Plymouth, said that the reliability of these acupuncture trials is dubious. He said: “On the face of it, these results sound fantastic. I would, however, be very cautious as much of the observed effect could be due to a placebo response. IVF may not seem to be "placebo-prone" but it probably is: if women expect it to be helpful they are more relaxed which, in turn, would affect pregnancy rates.”

Colin Fry, one of the UK’s best-known psychics, is best known for his popular Living TV series, 6ixth Sense with Colin Fry.

Born in 1962, Colin has been conducting private psychic sittings and performing in public as a ‘physical medium’ since he was 17 years old. Fry was once part of a spiritual organisation known as the Noah’s Ark Society, which provided a showcase for physical mediumship, as well as holding a number of private séances for its members. Although public displays of psychical mediumship are relatively rare now, they were very popular in the days of the Victorian music hall. Colin’s first TV show was 6ixth Sense with Colin Fry, and he proved so successful with viewers, he was soon asked to join the Most Wanted team, alongside Derek Acorah and Yvette Fielding. Most recently, Colin has been featured on Psychic Private Eyes with Tony Stockwell and T.J. Higgs. In this show, Colin and the rest of the team dedicate their time to finding out the answers to unsolved murders and mysteries.

In addition to his work on Psychic Private Eyes, Colin also spends a substantial amount of his spare time using his psychic abilities to help the Police and other detectives to locate bodies in murder cases or to determine whether a missing person is alive or dead.

Colin tours regularly, both in the UK and further afield. He recently toured New Zealand on a popular tour named ‘The Happy Medium’ which was so successful that it was later turned into a TV series and now airs during primetime on one of New Zealand’s main channels.

In addition to his career as a TV and live performer, Colin is the head of International College of Spiritual Science and Healing in Sweden. He regularly teaches students on a variety of subjects at the college, including basic psychic skills and positive thinking.

Colin is also a trained bereavement counsellor and believes his vocation in life is to comfort people who need to hear or understand that a friend or loved one still exists in the spirit world. He is often able to do this with great accuracy, which has helped to comfort many grieving people over the years. Indeed, he can often use his strong connection with the spirit world to provide people with spiritual guidance, as well as to communicate messages to and from the other side.

As well as using his psychic abilities to help others contact their loved ones, Colin is passionate about teaching others to tune into and make the most of their own psychic gift. He is also a keen advocate of positive thinking and has developed a set of positive thinking cards, as well as a positive thinking CD, which can be purchased by his fans.
